I've been thinking about one of these too. The battery issue has to be considered. From the users manual:

The battery in the X1 cannot be removed, replaced or repaired. If the battery in the X1 fails during the Warranty Period [1 yr], Liquivision will replace your X1. If the battery in the X1 fails after the Warranty Period, you may purchase a replacement X1 at your cost.

Supposedly the battery can last 10 years - but what if it doesn't? Buying a new unit after 2 or 3 years doesn't seem cost effective.

That was my major concern as well, I know there was suppose to be an update to the battery warrenty or something like that to address that and I think maybe even working on a method to "replace" the battery at the factory, maybe someone here can speak more to the facts on that but I know there were things in the pipe to address the issue, otherwise I would still have my VR3.

Also, to all the VR3 users among us - has anyone had reliability issues, ie, frequent repairs, etc. Especially with the color screen unit.....

I'm obviously on the market for a good multi-gas - any other comments on other makes and models would be most appreciated....

    Jim,
Unless you are going to buy one for Jeano, Elisha, and Me you will have to stick to the Duo.

has the battery issue been addressed? Why would they produce such a unit where it was not replaceable by user or factory...makes no sense!

...because it's potted to ensure it doesn't fail on your dive. Removeable batteries have been associated with sources of failure in many dive related products.

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory or defeat.
