there is at least one pretty detailed user's review of the x1 and quite a few of the f1 at deeperblue dot net. you might search the forum.

Bought the X1, had it ride along a few VR3 dives..... sold the VR3. I had the conservatism set to +2 initially, was too aggressive, set it to +3 still too aggressive, now it rides on +4 and I am happy.

Great comments everybody! Thanks for taking the time!

Although I’m sure the X1 is a great dive computer, I’m having difficulty understanding why I would pay $2,000 for something that basically just runs an algorithm based of time and pressure. I understand some algorithms are better then others, but the end result is to ascend slowly to allow the tissues to off gas. I don’t think the tissues know how much the dive computer costs. This is one issue where I tend to think the GUE folks have this one right. Get Deco Planner ($150), a dive slate ($20), and use your cheapy dive computer in gage mode.
I always find it odd that people think algorithms are an exact science and that all tissue is the same. We are all different. When diving deep, below 150 feet for more then 20 minutes, I think we should all stay in the water an extra 10 minutes breathing 100% oxygen beyond what our tables specify.
I really wish someone would put out a cheap 3 gas helium dive computer. I remember when it was difficult finding a two gas computer. Maybe I need to wait a bit? Like I’ve been waiting a bit for the $1,000 Dive Rite Trimix computer?
Thoughts?
I've never used the X1. I've been diving a VR3 for about 5 years (with the color screen for a bit over a year). Until recently I've had no problems with it and its been a great computer. I've been having some issues with it since I had to replace the buttons and it will probably be going back to England for a check up soon.
Overall I am extremely happy with how the unit has performed.
I'll hopefully be taking delivery of my X1 in the next few days.
I think the biggest issue that folks have with X1 is getting them.
Hopefully Liquivision is finally getting productions ramped up to meet demand.

Why X1? the biggest reason for me is I have something on my wrist that matches the algo on my tables exactly. Makes dive planning GREAT.
I used to plan my dives on V-Planner for gas/backup then dive the VR3, that doesn't work out too well when you start talking about dives to the 220 foot range.
OLED is AWSOME AWSOME AWSOME
I don't have to ship it back to the UK for service
I don't have to buy a PIN for every single feature
I can upgrade it myself in 5 minutes
I can change the software/algo myself in 5 minutes
It has a compass, that in my opinion is much better than the D9's which for me isn't even an option anyway.
For OW diving cut tables works great, for cave diving they do not, yes yes I know you CAN do tables and BT for cave diving but this is where a dive computer really shines through as you don't even get close to a square profile in most caves.
Tap navigation is beyond bad ass, at first I was like I dunno, now I'm like man this is AWOSME. My VR3 would trap water and get junk in the buttons, not that big of a deal but I don't have buttons any more.
The support is beyond awsome, tell me the last time anyone here talked to the person(s) that wrote the software driving a DUO or UWatec or VR3?
The downloader for the X1 is nice, I wanted the downloader app/hardware/pin for VR3 but the software SUCKS.
The X1 can download its tissue data to V-Planner for additional dive planning, same algo, stuff matches up.
Desktop dive planning software for the VR3 sucked and didn't match algorithms.
The X1 is small yet easy to read
The X1 can be read in water that is more toward mud than actual water
"Smiley deco aka diver on the line deco aka continuous ascent deco"
Is the X1 for everyone? no, but, there are reasons to pay 2 grand (1750.00 plust software)for it , for some people its not worth it, for others its the dive computer we've been waiting all our diving careers for.
If you can't tell I'm an X1 fan.
CON
Not cheap
I can't play ink squirt ocotopus game on deco

And all of that was from a guy who was a hard sell in the beginning. LOL
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory or defeat.
