Default Manatee on 8th April 2008

Entered at Catfish Hotel, I dived both up and downstream on Wednesday this week.

The flow is WAY up on what it was a mere 3 weeks ago.....it was kicking!

The viz was ~40 feet in the downstream passage (down to Manatee Spring) and 30 feet in the upstream tunnel (as far as Friedmans Sink).

I've never felt a siphon like that until yesterday. That was an experience. I stayed clear of the downstream, but we went on a short trip up and it was kickin'.

Manatee is also influenced by tides, and the flow can change every few hours.

If I understood some of your earlier posts correctly, you are only Cavern certified? If that's the case, what are you doing in the Cave?

Either I mis stated which part of the system I was referring to, or you misread my post, not sure which, as I don't do a whole lot of reading on manatee (it's one of my least favorite dives) and only go there when others suggest it....

You can feel the siphon starting in the OW right now, and the flowing side certainly has a cavern.

There was a NACD instructor in our dive group, so I guess technically I could have dove at the intro level (I **think** NACD allows diving up one level), but I wasn't interested enough to ask seeing as how that was my first drysuit dive outside of open water, and only spent about 5-10 minutes of the 45 minute dive in the cavern.

Only "cave" I've been in was Devils Ear, and that's with the instructor I'm taking intro with.

    Ok, Apparently I misread it.
