    Default Rose Sink

What is the access like at Rose Sink these days? Rose Sink is definitely one of my favorite cave diving sites. I had the pleasure of diving it four times before the State took over and "closed" it. Thanks

I just found out there was a cleanup there a few months back.

I wonder why I can't find any mention about it on this forum? Anyway, the article says several cave divers took part, there is a new fence, and "because of the increasing importance of a clean supply of drinking water, it is not open to the public". What a joke!

I've been saying it for a couple years now. Raising awareness of the aquifer is a double edge sword. There may be a day when non-divers don't like the idea of us swimming through their drinking water.

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

I haven't heard about it either before i've got Cindy's NSS-CDS underwater news magazine. I guess we better check the official NSS-CDS site more often. This forum is just another divers meeting place and not a news board for any agency led events. If somebody representing agency or a group of divers decide to announce it heshe does it. Otherwise there is no obligation to us from TJ or mderartors to make announcements.

On a subject i just want to add: yes, what a hell? I want to dive it too... before they allow boat traffic and inflatable coolers there. Maybe this sink will eventually get a status of the guided dive site if it successfully follows the same pass as Hart spr did.

Do you see state parks placing a ban on pee valves due to rising political pressure?

Rose is permit only. This clean up was not sponsored by any agency. Rather it was sponsored by environmental groups and individuals. Karst Environmental, Ichetucknee Springs Working Group and others. As everyone can see, this is a very sensitive area and far too much trash makes it into the system.

P.S. I don't think you have to worry about tubers in this sink.

Ya, sensitive.....lol They should check with the "End Timers" that have that big church just a stones through away. Wounder how much run off from thier parking lot ends up there. The state recently finished a catch basin so as to trap unwanted run off. The site is divable by permit...wounder who signs for the permits? I know when I got the permit for "The Cracks", all I had to do was ask the right person....Ken

    Question Rose

Is there anything that could be done to begin the process of getting rose sink open to other divers like has been done in the past???

As has been said previously, Rose is a permit only system. It is a very dynamic system prone to radical flow and visibility changes. We usually end up repairing the line somewhere on every dive. Since the system conditions can change DURING a dive, it is a very advanced cave dive.
