I was not talking about the instructor with her class, she is a good instructor, I was talking about the post about using a cookie instead of a jump reel, if you make that jump without a reel, that is a standard violation. That is a visual jump
Thanks...I wasn't adocating using a cookie instead of a jump reel. Sorry if I muddy the water or caused this tread to get off topic.
I was just saying that when you place a cookie to mark where you reached thirds, it may or may not necessarily be near one of your jump reels/spools. And unless another dive team came the same way you did, they may or may not have seem your jump reel(s). That's all.
Sorry OWSI176288, My fault for reading your post wrong, I just see to many instructors setting up visual jumps, like reel me in jumps, light jumps all without a continuous guideline. my apologies again.
you guys are funny...
but anyhow just to clarify,
After removing the jump reel the cookie was placed on
our incoming side of the jump where it should be and
we went out the same way that we came in (on the gold line)
so no, I don't do visual jumps.
have fun .... i'll be back up there on saturday for the next
cookie check

I am still shocked that an experienced diver would recklessly endanger an inexperienced diver who was depending on his cookie to know where to jump or turn around. A cookie is a private memo: it should concern only the person who placed it. My cookies have my name and notch code: only I know what they mean. I ignore other divers cookies: only they know what they mean.
