Default Twin Cave and Hole In The Wall Update

I had a class this weekend at the millpond but was unable to get any recent report on conditions of anything but JB. We took a boat out from Cave Adventurers Saturday the 8th and checked out both Hole and Twin. We dived both caves and were surprised at the conditions. Hole was clear at the surface and vis. was very managable upstream to 500' or so, where we turned on student's gas. There was good flow coming out of the spring vent.
We motor'd over to Twin and tied up and checked it to the back of the cavern. It was milky but, vis. was easily 40' + in most areas. There was cold water intrusion at Skile's Passage. I've never seen this before. A good day of diving after all!
We dove Jackson Blue today and vis. continues to improve. Before all the teams got in the water, the vis. was easily 50'+ from the cavern to 400' or so.
Many thanks to Brian Hamilton for his help with the system checks and class.
Hope all systems continue to clear.

That's great news. The last time I was in Twin, the visibility was less than 3'. The time before that I did feel cold water intrusion down in the deep section of Twin.

Unless we were to get more crazy large rains, I think Twin will continue to clear. Hole In The Wall is always a mystery. It is apt to change from one day to the next.
    Thanks,

Yea, I was surprised but very happy to find the improving conditions at Twin & Hole. The class got a big thrill out it for sure. Hopefully it will get better and better!
    Thanks,

Was there and got many dives in both Twin and Hole in Dec and first few days of Jan. I guess I felt the COLD water but it was still warm from what we got and the vis was stil lmuch better then what I amused to up here. I can tell it was down from the last trip back in April of last year.

Plan to be back down there in mid of April again this year.

    Slim,
The problem we had at the millpond and with it's cave systems, started a few weeks ago with several days of very heavy rain. This along with the low flow conditions from many months of the worst drought we've had in years, led to a reversal of Jackson Blue and from what I saw in Twin and Hole, those two systems as well. Everything is flowing out again and slowly clearing. Jackson Blue was down to near zero vis. as was Hole and Twin. Jackson Blue hasn't had flow like this in several years. Hopefully diving will contine to improve within all three of these systems. Hope your plans for April work out.
    Thanks,
    Kenny P.

Great to hear Kenny, I was being a PITA. I have been keeping up with it all. Hole was the worst on my trip. But the water you all have down there and vis is totaly differant then what we hav eup here. Our normal cave temp is 58* and our normal vis is 20 if we are doing OK and 30 it is considered crystal clear for us. Got to remember when I gt down there to dive, it is way better then what we have up here.

Even if it has made diving bad, I can remember that this was the time of the year that all gear wsa gone through and cave diving was not done as much. With all the southern area so dry, this in the long run will help out the systems with getting the aquifer recharged I hope and help them all out. Through the years I have seen a differance inthe flow and noticed that it just gets easyer and easyer.

Might see you down there next month. Plan to be down the mid of APril.

No doubt we're Blessed to have such resources with normally good conditions. You old Missouri boys have got to be a tough lot. I've dived down to 47* but it's not my cup of tea. It wasn't in a cave either! Hope to see you when you get down in April. I have a few outings on the calander for April.
    Bless,
