Anyone has been in there recently ? I'm tempted for this weekend... Last report on Tampadiving was 9/19/08 reporting 10-15' vis with flow. The poster said it would clear in a few days....

I stopped and looked at Ruth about 2 weeks ago. Water in basin was greenish, but clear and flow is up. I've dived it several times over the last year or so and this was the highest flow I have seen - there was even a very small boil. Since I didn't dive, I can't speak to the viz. in the cave, but if you can get 20', thats probably all you can hope for. Also, if you are going to ascend to the second sink, the viz. will be degraded on your return trip anyway.
Unless someone burned it, as they tried to do with the retaining wall, there is a handrail, but as someone pointed out, it has nothing to do with how we would enter the water.
Last time I was there, the "jump to nowhere" line was totally trashed and even the rock it was tied to is broken off. I do think the jump is marked on the mainline, but as was said, the jump line only went maybe 30'.
This cave seems to me to be extremely delicate with very soft rock and feet of silt, so I hope everyone going there is qualified (SM only) and very careful both for the benefit of the cave and themselves.

I could not make it to the parking in my Echo as the road was washed off. Mosquitos are nasty. I had to carry stuff approx 120 yeards from the hill immediately above the "steps". Steps are just errosion control and they actually make entry harder than it would be without them. I was in a system about 85 mins and when surfaced i scared a sh$t out of a young couple that had fun on those "steps". The young lady even ran back to the truck

I dove there yesterday for my sidemount class. There was some flow, not a lot, and visibility might have been 20-30 feet. It's a beautiful cave.
I was able to drive my non 4WD SUV down next to the spring without problems.
I didn't find any couples having sex on the steps, before or after my dive. YMMV.

I made my first two dives at Ruth this weekend. Really nice cave. I echo Serota's comment. Delicate and silty cave. As TJ(2) told me once: "When low go slow" or something like that. Not a beginner SM cave. I'm glad I waited to build up experience before going there.
Made it a little past the second entrance (900-1000' I estimate). That jump as you go in should be removed. The line only goes for 20' or so.
Vis 20'. Significant flow. No need to kick coming out.
Cudos to the folks that lined the system like it is right now. They did an excellent job. I only had to push aside the line once/twice passing some restriction. That's nothing considering the size of the passages.

Ruth on 10/15/08 - something different?
Ken and I dove Ruth this morning and everything was as "usual"; eg, 20' viz., good flow etc. until I approached the second entrace (sink at ~900'). I am fairly sure that there is now an opening to the sink adjacent to the one that the line goes through that wasn't there the last time (1 month ago) that I dived there. Here's a clue: the half-buried log that creates the tightest spot through the small passage is in full daylight and I sure don't remember it that way.

Its called "Log Jammin". Everytime I have been there I have seen daylight.
