JB is clearing

Jackson Blue is clear now! I was there at 7:30 this morning and it is clear and there is a boil. Twin Cave, the water around it is brown but you can see blue just under the water where the opening is (so it is flowing). Hole in the Wall has a boil for the first time in a long time and from the surface I could see the bottom in front of the cave. Marius is going in here soon so I will have a report in a few hours. I just finished a dive and I'm charging the scooter for a second dive.Vis is 30' in the cavern, about 40' past the dropdown, and seemed to be clearing up some more past the second T, but I had a weird vibration in the prop shaft and turned.Jason is just now entering the water, going to the EOL, so I'm sure he'll have a report for us.

The air pocket at the end of the cavern zone is almost completely gone. This was a good thing for JB.

Sorry to change the topic of this tread but, can we dive JB without a scooter?
I heard the current is generaly strong but we would like to try soem new caves and wonder to know if JB can be a possible dive for us.

JB can pump extremely strong, but for the past several months flow has been down. Over the last two weeks, it has started picking up, but still by no means pumping enough to hinder any real swimming travel.

Absolutely.

I've seen JB anywhere from almost-Peacock to almost-Manatee. This past November was about as low as I've seen it - most anybody could do the 1300-foot circuit without a stage. May of 2005 was as high as I've seen it - I saw a group only make it to 900' with 104s and a stage each.

Today, it was up considerably from November, but still easy for sans-scooter.

I would say 40 was optimistic. Basin with backlight had 40- main cave to about 2200 30 foot or less- 2200-4000ft 5-15 better on one side than the other- 4000 on to banana room 50-60 foot- top of banana room is crackling- as is the passage beyond the end of the gold line. Side passages on right side of cave are ok once you get 500-600 feet away from the main line, the jump area into the large tunnels on the right (Crinoid glory, etc) is particularly bad- you cannot see one side of the passage from the other. There is a beautiful new layer of straight up mud silt from about the trash room to 3900 feet- almost 1/8 inch deep in some places. Very nice, and very fine- it comes up easily. The flow is up, even with the pond being almost as high as I have seen it- if they drop the dam, swimmers will be SUCKING.

Had a good dive- I had four hours of scrubber to burn, so I did a whole cave tour. (less the source nuveau.)
