I have an open-water friend that wants to dive this Sunday, and I can't bring myself to pay money to dive Vortex. Is Morrison divable? Is the gate still unlocked every morning?

They are doing construction at Morrison. There will eventually be a new boat ramp, a dock that surrounds the basin, including a dock over the cavern entrance. They have moved the gate back to the beginning of the dirt road. If you go there you'll be better off entering at the boat ramp down the street and swimming the run to the basin. However, from what I understand, the river level is up and visibility in the basin is zero. On the bright side, Vortex is only $19 now. Why not head to Mill Pond? Enter at one of the boat ramps. You won't get any depth, but you'll see a lot more than you will in Vortex...minus all the student divers...

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll leave the OW buddy at home and head down to JB instead. I'm sure I can find somebody to dive with.

wheres the boat ramp located? I have thought of doing this...
gps coordinates anyone?
I briefly looked around for it Sunday. Didn't spend a ton of time riding around, since there was a line of heavy thunderstorms heading in...
Where Morrison Springs Road branches off the left and a dirt road heads straight, I took the dirt road straight. The first two dirt roads off to the left(which would seem to eventually hit spring run) were posted No Trespassing. The third wasn't posted, so I took it. There are several criss-crossing dirt roads running around so I didn't piddle around much due to the coming storms and my FWD station wagon overloaded with dive gear. LOL
Maybe with a little more time...
