Florida Statute 258.015 created the Citizen Support Organization (heretofore CSO) as a not for profit organization to provide direct and indirect benefits to a state park and/or state park system.
Most people on this forum are aware of the Peacock Springs CSO committee that has worked for the last several years to provide tank benches, changing rooms, walkway to P1,interpretive trail, educational lectures, social events etc.
The Peacock Springs CSO committee operated as a committee to Friends of Ichtucknee CSO during this time period, which means we didn't have the independence of a CSO. Over the last few months the incorporation process was initiated by us at the recommendation of park management to form an independent CSO due to our successes. I am proud to announce that the new CSO which will replace the Peacock Springs CSO committee will be called the North Florida Springs Alliance, and it will include Peacock,Troy, and possibly Little River in the future. The same people and support are intact, just a new name.
How does this benefit cave divers?
The CSO is a symbiotic relationship between the park and the community, which includes the cave diving community. This relationship has seen much improvement in Peacock over the years with the park officials, compared to the time period before the CSO for those of us who remember. The NFSA will have their annual member's meeting in May (announcement will be made) and at that time we will install new officers for this new corporation.
If you are an old member of the Peacock Springs CSO committee your membership will transfer, but if you have an interest in joining (for the paltry sum of $15),please PM me.
Thank you
Kelly Jessop,Chair
