Vortex is only 30-45 min away from Marianna, make a quick side trip one of the days during the workshop.

The water is always clear in the cave at Vortex, they run pumps in the spring run to keep tannic water from backing into the basin/cavern/cave. While the basin and cavern get kicked up by OW traffic, you have to be Full Cave to get past the gate and that means very little traffic.

I've been as far as truk lagoon, for that amount of penetration, its nice enough. Eduardo can talk your ear off about it though. He says the 3rd restriction is backmountable at this point... still looked pretty tight to me though.

Sounds like a plan, I wonder how busy they will be, Memorial weekend and all? I bet they will be packed. I would like to go maybe on the way home Monday.

True.. You will be able to walk across the top of the water without getting wet. However, in the past I have been one of 10 total divers there for the whole weekend and the only cave diver there.

The 3r my be back mount for some but for a 250# guy like myself and at 137 ffw, it's sidemount only for me...

I talked to Eduardo last weekend and he said the the flow has picked up and has pushed some sand back into the third restriction. I think you'll need sidemount to pass the third restriction it until he cleans it back out.

Who was the guy years ago with one arm that worked there digging in the sand? I meet him once,,,what ever happened to him?

That last room is a sight to behold- white sand- almost 50 vertical feet of it backed up in a huge slope held up only by the water pressure blasting through the small pipe at it's base. It's a fatality waiting to sneak up on someone. Interesting to hear that someone is attacking it by removing the sand. That is pretty cool. Having almost been trapped by sliding sand, I was reluctant to doff the tanks to get through the restriction at the bottom, but I knew it had been done. Congrats to those folks.
