I hate to say it but I was teaching in OG today and one of my students saw the same letters in the floor right where the line goes up and then hangs a left.....

That may also be helpful information to us in identification of the culprits.
I believe that it was between P1 and olsen on the main gold line. I remember seeing some damage last sunday and thought to myself "who the hell did This!!" Although it could be between Olsen and crossover, I don't remember exactly.

Would anyone have a problem if I decided to get a little clay and tried to repair it very carefully?
You are not referring to the two depressions (looks like someone was there praying or something) in the crossover tunnel are you??? They are about 4-5" deep in the silt on the Olsen end of the crossover passage.

I can tell you the state would not be to kind to someone defacing the cave, I hope someone who knows what they are doing erased what they wrote.

    hey Raphael,

Why do you say this? I actually think that the opposite is true - that it's much more likely to have been a team. A couple of teens (mentally if not chronologically) acting like a pair of dumb schoolkids, egging each other on.

I just don't want us getting issues confused. Please let's not have THIS offered as a reason to ban solo diving at various places.

Good point. I didn't see it this way when I posted. I was saying that because my cave buddies would hang me if I were to do something like that. It was stupid of me to assume that everyone hangs out with good buddies. Two dumbasses together or not together is still two dumbasses.

Do you know what punishment the law would allow?

Would it be possible to have their gear taken away and jail time? or at the very least heavy heavy fines and lots of community service?

Jail time and gear taken away prefered.

You are dreaming there. Unless they were caught on video or by more than one witness (and even there) nothing can be done to prove it's them. The best course of action is that their identities be known to the community.

I really doubt we will ever know for sure who did it. We might come out with a few suspects but no way to know if it's really them.

Class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in jail. I'm sure the park system can add other punishment like banned from the park.

Can you imagine the type of crap the vandal would catch if the cave community posted pictures of the cave offender?
Post picture in the LDS's, cut off his ability to buy gas.

    Default DIC

We have DIC in the clay in five areas of the cave, I have some full cave divers and instructors trying to smooth them out, unfortunately we had a solo diver here Monday. I'm talking to park management about it this afternoon.
