The chain was cut for a while earlier this year. It's not like Cathy can replace it right away. I don't think you can link a cut chain to someone diving there. Everyone should check in but some people don't.

What about getting signs up in the usual spots, Cathy's, Cave excursions etc, maybe offer a reward if they are turned in.

I'd be willing to pitch in money to offer a reward if legal action can be taken against these jerks.

I've had some experience fixing damage to caves like this. I don't even want to go in and see this but if there is a dive mounted to fix this feel free to call me. Otherwise, I will probably never dive there again.

You can see a marking. I wonder if that is where the last act of vandalism was repaired.

Yes. I believe the blurry spot near the center of the picture is a hand-claw mark I once had to repair. Amazingly the diver who did it is still alive (but no longer cave diver). I try not to look too closely when I pass for fear I'll notice and remember the damage.

I gave my logon to a local buddy that is having trouble trying to get on the site, he tried to post this but the site is timing out for him so I'm putting it up here, if it double posts just please delete -

I am using a friends log on since I can't get it to let me create an account. I took someone in Cow on November 1st and there was no damage. I heard there was some defacing done and went back in on Nov 6th. Right off the bat I noticed that the second lock on the chain had been cut off. I don't know when this happened but someone since had rerouted both ends of the chain into the working lock. I assume that the one who cut the lock is the one responsible for the damage and never went to Dive Outpost to get the key or fill out a waiver. The first signs of new damage are right at 600' in. They wrote "DIC" in letters about 18" tall into the face of one of the most beautiful clay banks in the system. They wrote the same letters into the floor at about the same spot but it is in sandy gravel and will smooth out very quickly. The next spot is about 670' in and not as easy to tell what they were trying to write in the clay but it looks like they tried to write their name but then crossed it out followed by was here. It is not nearly as large or legabile but obvious that something was done. The last place I noticed damage was on the back side of the large mound you go over just before the pull rope ends and you get to not my fault. Here they also wrote "DIC" in the clay but there are a lot of other marks as if there was something else written that they decided not to leave and tried to cover up. I have some pictures of the damage but was asked not to post them yet. I was also told by someone today that the same words are written in Peacock between pothole and olson sink. I have not verfied it yet because they don't let me dive there at night, or solo. more updates to follow as soon as i can get an account made.

Wow...that is so unbelievably sad.

I've only had the chance to dive Cow once, it was definitely one of my favorites.

For sure the writing was there Last Sunday afternoon in P1 11-04-07. Did anyone notice it prior to 11-04-07? that would narrow it down some. My son took alot of pictures last weekend, so if it happened Sunday, we may have the guy on film/digital pic. I know that this is the COW discussion, but since we mentioned a timeline, I'm trying to narrow it down.
