Oh man, that was fun. The descriptions and video. Thanks for posting.

Great stories all around. Loved the video too.

During the time frame that Mark put the line in the FBT, very few, if any divers had poked around that part of the cave. That's ironic because it's so close to the entrance. I went in various parts of the tunnel with Harry Averile and others back in the mid to late 90's and at that time the walls were still almost totally black and very few scrape marks on the floor. Not so today. First of all, the "Well" that both Mark and Gary described is now accessible in back mount. Divers have pushed the restriction in doubles for so many years that now all you have to do is turn sideways and in you go. Now keep in mind that is not part of the FBT but it's only yards away from the FBT line. One other point to mention. That part of the cave is now almost totally white! Lots of traffic has passed thru this area. One other point to be aware of. There is NO line in this area so a traverse over to July Springs will require a big reel. Once again, this Well area is not part of FBT but it's right next door. Back to the FBT for a sec. I was in one of the "bailout" areas to this line just a few weeks ago and it was obvious that nobody had been in there in quite a while. Lots of silt but having said that, there's also lots of flow so it clears out quickly. Around ten years or so ago, before Gary passed, we spent a day or two talking about doing this dive. For those of you who knew him, sidemount was the only way to dive so this was right up his alley. In my opinion, his idea of dumping your large size cylinders and going with small ones is a good idea. He said he did it with AL40's. Too small for me but the point is well made. Bigger is not better!
So why do this dive? As Ainslee said, maybe it's a right of passage or some such. If you're recently certified, don't even think about it!
Just watched the video all I can say is HELL NO!!! You guys /gals have big balls...
always ready to dive
I don't think I'd fit through that first restriction--even if I was in a rubber suit and well greased! Awesome video, though!

I'll be diving there Tuesday or Wednesday and I'll take a look at it, however, keep in mind that I've yet to do the swimthru. I have been in both ends and into the bailout area and into the well many times over the years but that's it. Like a lot of the comments here in this thread, I question my own wisdom every time I'm in that area! Mark was taller than me but thinner and Gary was a bit shorter and lighter as well but then I tell myself if a video crew can go thru there so can I ( maybe ). I'll let you know about the line. ( maybe )
