    Default side mount rig

I am considering side mount training and rebreather diving and I have looked on Dive Rite's website about the Nomad side mount system. It indicated that this is a good rig with most rebreathers. Does anyone have experience using this rig with a rebreather and is it - in your opinion - superior to a standard backplate and wings used for BM? Thanks for the advice in advance.

    Default Sidemount CCR

Here is an article that Advanced Diver Magazine did on using sidemount with CCR. Its basicly the way to go to carry a bail out system.

Thanks for the input in this topic and the disadvantage topic. I got my Nomad about 6 weeks ago. The first dive at Little River was very entertaining for all that were there. I tried using a set of Worthington E119's. My experience was that the Worthingtons were more unwealdy sidemount than they were back mount. I then went into my garage and got two LP 80's and put the Rt & Lt valves on them. "Heaven" I have been "tweeking" the setup since then, had have it just about right. Picking the brains and advice of Wayne, Jim, Jeff and anyone else at Ginnie. The cave diving community is a great scorce of information. Some things work, and some things didn't. But the plus is NO MORE BACK ACHE using back mount. Sea Ya....Ken

It works well both ways...have done both, the secret is to use the DR Butt plate...it will attach to the backplate as well as the Transpac in the Nomad configuration. It gets the bottles in a much better, "streamlined along the body" configuration than attaching the bottles as you would in a stage/deco. configuration. You will still need the bungies, of course, for attaching the top of the bottles to the harness, either way. For cave dives most are using dual AL-40's for limited, recreational (i.e. 100 ft. or less, 2000 ft. penetration or less) shallower dives, and dual AL-80's for longer, deeper stuff. Your plan, the dive profile, and your SAC rate will dictate these issues for CCR bailout. One tank on one side tends to be a bit "roll-prone", in the opinion of many.
