    Default Gator In Hudson Grotto?

My son-in-law and I made a dive in Hudson Grotto yesterday(06-25-2007). He claims to have seen a baby gator about 2' long swimming next to the floating dock. I figured he saw the large turtle or the large catfish that hangs around there, but he insists it was a gator.

Has anyone dived there recently and seen it?

Wouldn't surprise me.... I would tell him not to worry until it's longer then he is...

    Default Bowfin

Anyone ever have a run in with a Bowfin aka Mudfish? I was finishing up at Peacock Sunday and a really big one came out of one of the ledges at 10 feet. In the two foot vis it was quite a sight.

BTW they have teeth so watch your fingers on the ledges.

Yep, saw one about two weeks ago at Peacock...pretty impressive size.

The gator was getting pretty close to us in the water that day, too. Is she still hanging out there? One of the rangers was discussing have her relocated. She seemed more curious than aggressive.

Yes - those bowfin can be pretty cheeky - Tracy & I ran into one out by the Peanut restriction. I was surprised to see it so far into the cave, and even more surprised when it swam rapidly at Tracy's face! Guess it was hungry - but it soon figured out she was too big for it to eat.

You were at Peacock? I was at Peacock on Sunday. You couldn't miss me. I was the one with the, er, boots.....

I asked someone who was there about the gator and he said that it had "bothered" someone recently and it was taken away (as in, to the stew pot, probably).

    Default Bowfin at Peacock

I saw the bowfin, during a safety stop last Saturday in PSSP. The late alligator friend missed a huge dinner.

    Safe diving.

I think I would be more worried about the baby gators mother

    Safe diving,
