You sir, are a snob. You have attempetd to diminish the great contributions made by Jerry Reed.

You barely mention his smash social commentary, "When you're Hot, you're hot" and his deep and insightful "Tupelo Mississippi Flash".
You also seem to have forgot Polk Salad Annie (Gator's got your granny), and his entire stellar acting career. I mean he was "The Snow Man".
And do not forget his astute observation on painful divorces written for men. "She got the gold mine, I got the shaft".

I mean, who are you going to insult next? Jim Stafford? Wierd Al Yankovic? Tom Lehrer? Then who would have inspired this with his music?

    John, you're fired!

I was doing yard work yesterday, and because of this thread, I couldn't get that song out of my head - "'Cause the mama was working on the chain-gang."

Then I got to thinking - that wasn't Jerry Reed! It was Tony Joe White. Although it was also recorded by Elvis and Tom Jones, it was White's version that made the charts.

By George, you're right. My apologies to Tony Joe. But, that does not diminish the contributions of Jerry Reed, one of only 5 people to recieve the coveted CGP degree. ("Certified Guitar Player") bestowed by Mr. Chet Atkins.

So now we've veered off to Ray Stevens?

John, in doing some reading, it seems Chet Atkins (who grew up one county north of mine) credits Jerry Reed with helping him work out some of the fingerings on "Yakety Axe." I was not aware he was so prodigious. Certified Guitar Player indeed.
