Hi,
Well, as has been mentioned, this forum WONDERFUL as it is, may not be your best resource. It's here for people who scuba dive in caves.
I will direct you to a couple other resources which might provide you with more help. One of them is is the discussion forum of the National Speleological Society: http://www.cavechat.org (I'm an administrator there so I'm a smidgeon biased). The NSS is the original national group for cavers who explore dry (air filled) caves. Then as time when on, dry cavers saw the light and realized that they should be inclusive and now include cave diving as a "section" of their organization. [Cave Diver's Forum is non-demoninational, I think, and you can belong to any organization, such as the National Association of Cave Diving]
Then there's the National Caves Association: http://cavern.com . They're the organization for "show caves" or what used to be called "commercial caves" and are the caves where you pay money and they take you on a tour. If you go to their directory: http://cavern.com/caves/ you can find the show caves by state.
Carlsbad Caverns isn't on the way to anything but is worth the trip!!!! It's awesome!! Mammoth Cave isn't nearly so beautiful, but the distinction of longest in the world is remarkable. It's never a disappointing trip. In fact, a "spelunking" tour there in 1973 is what hooked me on caving!
Yep, Luray is very beautiful, but the Shenadoah Valley in Virginia (I-81) has many, many caves, Endless, Grand, Natural Bridge, Shenandoah, I think there are a few more. Luray is probably prettiest, but it's also the most "commercial."
There are people from all over the country on CaveChat who will know each cave and give recommendations.
