    Default Oops! I forgot?

Have you ever arrived at the dive site only to discover that you have left a valuable piece of equipment at home? What did you do? Abort the dive, borrow the equipment from someone else? Dive without it? In my case I was suiting up only to discover I had left my drysuit underware at home. I cobbled together a fleese jacket from my buddie, left my shorts and socks on and dove. I had big red wrinkles on my legs which did get pretty cold during the dive but also managed to save the day and made two dives.

Only once, and only one item, - but it was my drysuit. April in Vermont, water temperature around 42. I was sure I had everything until I found out I didn't. No dive for me that day. My two buddies had a great dive, though.

One time me and my buddy went to dive the jetty off of Radio Island in NC. I forgot my fins. My buddy lent me one of his fins so we each had only one fin..... We both nearly got swept out into the inlet when the tide turned and we nearly both died from heart attacks trying to get back to shore. It was fun, though!

Is it clear? No? Well....let's go anyways.

Forgot my Golem Wing. Rented a DR Classic from Kathy and had a great dive.

I have a weasel undergarment but (when diving in Florida) I usually just wear a sweater and shorts under it (DUI CF200). I have worn my jeans (or shorts) & tshirt under it. It wasn't uncomfortable... and I'm always forgetting my socks; like when I wear sandals or my crocks...

I teach some scuba class nearly every day. Someone is always missing or forgetting something... and unfortunately, even I forget things. Its nice to have a routine, but sometimes I change vehicles, or gear, and trouble happens. Yesterday a student left his wet suit so he ended up doing 3 'cool' dives. I would have lent him mine, but.... Today it was my turn... I forgot my pass... and camera... we were almost to the dive site... an extra 1.5 hours wasted going back for them...

Bring extra, pack the night before. If you think of something while in bed, get up and pack it...

I have rented gear from the dive shops in NFL. Thank goodness they are there. Wish there was a dive shop next to all the dive sites.... for my sake....

Really??! I always thought it was 'at' the dive sites that you would forget/leave things.

A student left one of MY computers at Peacock on Sunday... but John O. found it and left it at one of the shops... (Thanks John!)... but that was a long time ago... 3 days...

I have forgotten my rock boots a couple of times.
One time I had on sandals, so had to abort the dive, the other I had on hiking boots.
Have you ever tried to fin with 10LB. of wt. on Ea. foot?

Another time I forgot my under garment for my dry suit when we went to Penny Royal Quarry in Ky.
I just wore what I had on, jeans, socks, T-shirt & sweat shirt, all cotton.
At 115' deep & 42 degrees I learned never to do this again.
I froze my butt off on an hour dive & shivered pretty bad through the deco.
I believe we did this dive in a Feb. one year & it was way warmer out of the water.
I think it was a couple hours before I could tie my shoes.

I can think of two right off the bat.

    1. I forgot my rockboots.....ended up wearing my dive buddies size 10 sneakers!

    2. This one was embarrassing. Dive vacation to Hawaii, forgot my cambands for my backplate and wing. I didn't realize until the boat was underway and in the gear assembly process. I was HORRIFIED as I looked in my bag and realized what I had done. I figured I was going to be a bubble watcher on the first day, but the op hadn't left the harbor yet and had a stop to make to pickup the lunch/snacks. Lucky for me, the sandwich place was next to a dive shop. They just radioed up to drop down a BCD for me. I looked like a real experienced dork trying to figure out how integrated weights in that BCD worked! The trip was saved when the captain of the boat loaned me his STA for the week. I was reminded of how much I prefer a backplate to a BCD that day.

There are 3 kinds of people in this world; those who are good at math, and those who are not.

The only thing Ive left is o-rings for a leaking din.And that was only because I hadnt wrote it on my checklist, which I take my time to go over very carefully. Its wrote out in magic marker on the lid of my plastic gear box.Ive found that a good list for camping supplies is another good idea. But I write that one on a 12 inch 1x4,so it dont get tossed or blown away.
