Halls dive shop in marathon. i worked at tildens and dove with some of the guys there they do alot of runs from key west to some not so known places the highlight for me was for the tek trips your diving with other tek divers who have a beter grasp of whats going on. although i can most certainly throw in another vote for Slate's. ive done at least 40 dives with them. all good

{!}boat cault on fire maybe not their fault but a little pre maint would be great
{2} the secound dive was great
{3}the grove one diver left in the water dive outher divers when back on board said their stuff was gone threw "mine was fine so i cant say about outhers" ok they start the boat go a little and we run out of gas we are floating now we were afloat for 45 min or so the tow boat came and toe us in .. not that big of a deal we were to git a ton of steel shirt no shirts to be seen they said they would send it never got it ..oh and when i said their boats are crap just look outher dive boats dont look like theirs ... this is my thoughts im not saying slate is bad but i would never step foot on one of his boats or his shop

You would never had a dive on the Spiegel Grove either. The effort to get it here was his pet project and it took ten years of his time. The below article was written in 2002. Slate is a friend of mine and a good guy who if I understand you correctly had a small fire on his boat on the day you dove with him. Anyway heres the credits for his efforts below.

    Spencer Slate http://www.skin-diver.com/wrecktrek/bios.html

Spencer Slate has owned and operated Capt. Slate's Atlantis Dive Center in Key Largo for 24 years. .... Most recently, Captain Slate has served as Chairman of the Spiegel Grove Artificail Reef Committee, which is tasked with sinking the largest ship wreck in history for diving (the Spiegel Grove is scheduled for sinking in Key Largo, Fla in mid-June 2002).

    Default diving the grove

In the past I have used silent world and I am leaving the 20th of june to go dive it again with them I understand that they have changed hands since the last time I dove with them so this maybe different. I had a wonderful dive on the grove and the captain was great let us know how much current to expect for that days worth of diving. And made us all laugh when he throwed the moring chain through the side window on accedent. We Cleaned the boat of all it's class and went on with the dive.
so that is it in a nut shell.

I will come back on the 27th of june and repost or dives with them.

Wow! A boat with no "class". I should fit right in on that cruise.
Was the Captain's last name Clouseau by any chance? I have always wondered about what happened to the old inspector.

Conch Republic (on Gulf side of Tavernier Creek) lets you do your thing, whatever you want...either one long dive (my business associate did two hours on the Grove using his Optima), we did two shorter dives ( :35-:40 BT plus deco), on a half day trip, no hassles, just tell the crew what your plan is so they know when to look for you. Doesn't seem to matter if the boat is all tech or just a few. About the only question they asked was what's your gas and MOD, that was it.
Attitude/procedure was the same the day before on the Duane....
