This year the CDS had decided to add something a little different to the normal conference speaker schedule during the day on Saturday.

There will be two breakout sessions where attendees can either choose to view the vendor booths, or attend some exciting breakout sessions with interesting topics.

Make sure you plan ahead, as most of the sessions are offered both breakout times allowing you to take in more then one topic.


Here are the breakout session times and information:

Morning Breakout Session (10:00 - 11:00)


"Cave Photography Techniques - An Overview" - Jill Heinerth


Interested in learning some photography techniques for the caves? Want to see some sample professional cave photography? Come see Jill Heinerth's work and learn some techniques for the awesome shots that can be taken inside of the caves that we dive. This breakout will do a high level overview of some of the most common photography techniques in our unique low light environments. If you want to snap a good picture in a cave, don't miss this breakout.



"The wreck of the Oceanos" - Paul Heinerth

The film is on the first successful dives on the wreck of the Oceanos, which sank off the coast of South Africa back in Aug. of 1990. It was a cruise ship that sank in 300 ft. of water, 2 miles off the coast in the Indian Ocean. Thankfully, there was no loss of life on this incident. The film covers the story on the sinking of the ship and the previous attempts of other to dive it. We then discuss our approach to the challenge, the training, the logistics and finally the successful dives on the 500ft long wreck that we were able to make.



"Stuck! - Extreme sidemount exploration techniques" - Brett Hemphill and Mike Poucher

Interested in exploring sidemount caves? Like those tight and silty caves? Hear and see some of the stories and techniques used in exploring some of the most extreme sidemount locations and situations from the guys that have been there and done that.


"Sidemount Gear - The newest and best gear configurations for sidemount." - Lamar Hires

Interested in sidemount but never tried it yet? Been sidemounting for awhile but want to "change" a few things? Hear and discuss some of the newest and best ways to configure your sidemount rig, whether it is the Nomad, other off the shelf unit, or home built. Bring your rig, or see the ones at the breakout. Lamar Hires will be offering his advice and experiences for those wanted to sidemount or want to better their current sidemount configuration.
