normoxic or trimix

what would be the best class money wise gas coast normoxic i think takes you down to 245 250 right and trimix 300 if i have this wrong let me know im just starting to do the info gathering any info would be great...

Isn't one a prereq to the other? I thing you might be pushing normoxic at 250 but OK.

yes it is pushing 250 sorry i didnt write that but i think you can skip normoxic and go right to trymix i think all you need is atleast one teck class so that is what was told to me

Description

The Normoxic Trimix Diver Program will develop basic skills for technical diving. This course will train divers in the use of double cylinders using various using trimix to reduce the effects of narcosis as well as the procedures for decompression. The program will qualify divers to perform dives to 200ft. using any eanx mix including the use of oxygen for decompression.

Do you have any helium experience/certification (ie. Helitrox, recreational trimix, etc.) ? Dives past 150' ?

If not, a full trimix class would be a hell of a step to do assuming it could be done. I will say the best move is to do normoxic (technically 21%+ but in practice we are talking about 18%+) which opens the door down to 225'. That's two deco bottle and BG mix breathable at surface.

Now if you have been diving to 150-200' under a "recreational trimix" type certification (and using two deco bottles) then perhaps it could be a good decision to take one class hypoxic trimix.

Really depends on your background.

How your qualified for hypoxic trimix without any 130-200ft trimix experience I don't understand. One set of skills builds on the other.

I'll bet the instructor who posted that is bundling normoxic and hypoxic into a single, longer class.

I did both back to back. I think I would have been a bit safer on my first 20 or 30 deep dives afterwards if I'd done normoxic, then done about 20 dives in the 130-200 range, then done hypoxic. This depth range already opens up a LOT of diving, and allows you to slowly build up before suddenly finding yourself in the water with two Al 80's and a bloody great set of doubles. No need to rush. And the danger really grows exponentially with depth.

It'll be another year or so before I make the jump to trimix, but I looked at this same dilemna. Quite frankly, I'll be doing the normoxic route. There is a LOT of diving in the normoxic range to keep me entertained for years to come.

The pre-requisites, for a Trimix course, depended upon the certifying agency you take your class with. TDI’s current Trimix class is equivalent to the other agencies Entry Level Trimix or Normoxic Trimix. TDI’s Advanced Trimix class is equivalent to the other organizations Trimix class. In my honest opinion it’s better to take a Nomoxic Trimix class before you take a Trimix class (that’s the way I did it).

The maximum depths are listed below for the classes (they are the training organizations maximum depth the course can be taught at), but you are trained to the maximum depth which your class obtained during the training dives, which is to be less than, or equal to, the training agency’s maximum depth standard.

TDI 2007 standards
TDI Trimix Diver (maximum depth 200 fsw, no gas less than 18% oxygen)
Pre-Requisites:
1) Be a minimum age of eighteen (18.).
2) Have a minimum certification as a TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver and Decompression Procedures Diver (or equivalent).
3) Have a minimum of one hundred (100) logged dives.

TDI Advanced Trimix Diver (maximum depth 330 fsw)
Pre-Requisites:
1) Be a minimum age of eighteen (18.).
2) Have a minimum certification as an Extended Range Diver or Entry Level Trimix Diver (or equivalent).
3) Show proof of a minimum of one hundred (100) logged dives with 25 deeper than one hundred (100) feet / thirty (30) meters.
4) Prior logged experience w/ double cylinders and any other unfamiliar equipment. I.E. Dry suit
5) Be a minimum age of eighteen (18.).

IANTD November 5th, 2006 standards
IANTD Normoxic Trimix Diver - maximum depth 200 fsw (60 msw)
Pre-Requisites:
1) Must be qualified as an IANTD Advanced EANx Diver. Divers qualified as Technical Diver, see note below under Program Content section.
2) Must provide proof of a minimum of 100 logged dives, of which at least 30 were deeper than 90 fsw (27 msw) or sufficient experience doing technical dives to satisfy the instructor that the student has the ability and knowledge to continue into this level of training.
3) Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

IANTD Trimix Diver - maximum depth 333 fsw (100 msw)
Pre-Requisites:
1) Must be qualified as an IANTD Technical Diver or Technical Cave Diver or Technical Wreck Diver or Normoxic Trimix Diver or equivalent.
2) Must provide proof of a minimum of 200 logged dives, of which at least 25 were to depths between 140 fsw (42 msw) and 200 fws (60 msw) or sufficient experience doing technical dives to satisfy the instructor that the student has the ability and knowledge to continue into this level of training.
3) Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

PADI Tec Trimix Diver (maximum of 75 meters / 245 feet)
Pre-Requisites:
1) Certified as a PADI Rescue Diver or having a qualifying certification in diver rescue and accident management from another training organization.
2) Minimum age: 18 years.
3) Certified as a DSAT Tec Deep Diver or have a qualifying certification in technical enriched air / air deep decompression diving from another organization.
4) Have a minimum of 150 logged dives.
