Scientific Cave Studies

Hey everyone,
Do you know (specifically) any scientific studies and papers written about underwater caves, especially the caves in Florida? I am studying them as part of my thesis and looking at sedimentation rates and flood frequencies, and would like to know if anyone knew of published papers?

not quite, i already have that. Im looking for a more in depth study of one or two cave sites. I know the guys who wrote that bulletin, so ill talk to them about it. Forrest, know anything? Or Brian Kakuk?

Try Pete Butt at Karst Enviromental. If he has not done them himself I sure he know who has done them.

NSS Journal of Cave and Karst Studies is dedicated to this sort of article; you can also find information in old UWS. There was a geologist/hydrologist named Bill Wilson (I believe) who may have written a few articles. Try the link below:

Jerry has the best approach. I don't personally know of anything.

The NSS Journal would certainly be the place to start. Researching the professional geology publications would be your other good source of course.

You might look for hydrogeologists in FL that could possibly point you to some resources as well. The universities and consulting firms would be the places to check. Also the state division of geology or whatever it's called there. You never know, you might get some leads to some less known information, maybe something that's unpublished. Just start calling/emailing folks, doesn't hurt to ask anyway.

And of course the USGS is usually an excellent source for water level monitoring data. The FDA may have information on some since there are a lot of water bottlers there. I'm betting the bottling companies have some of the most in depth studies, but that you won't get hold of them either.

The US Army Corps of Engineers sometimes has a lot of related information (I don't know how much in FL) but it's usually project specific.

I'm sure you've thought of most if not all that but maybe it'll help.

There's a handicapped gentleman that dives Jackson Blue a lot (I believe his name is Doron, but I don't know if that's his first or last name) that teaches Oceanic Physics at FSU. If you bump into him I'm sure he could point you to some good sources.
