Good fills

Do what we did in the '70's. Leave your tanks in a freezer all night, then go and get them filled. Underwater Designers in Jax had a walk in freezer we would put the tanks in. Sure you got a cup and 1/2 of water out of them, but damn it, they were full.

Do you remember Phil Janca's ice water tank? I got to LR with 4000psi once, just before the burst disks went.

You had burst disks? When did that happen. I havent thought about Phil in years. I remember Steve Matheny's refrigerated fill tank there in Jax., but the freezer worked better.

That brings back memories. Several years ago I worked in an open-water-only shop whose compressor had the auto shutoff set at 3300psi. There was a rental shop next door (forklifts, chainsaws, etc.) that had a huge ice machine.

I would fill my doubles to 3300, let them sit for several hours to cool down, top them off again, and then put them in a large tank filled with ice. They would drop to 3000, I'd bring them back to 3300, and they would warm up to 3600.

John, the water separators must be a lot better these days, because I never got any condensation inside the cylinders.

I was living in N VA at the time, 1977, and "cave fills" were a new concept to me

The common solution at the time was to remove the burst plug, and replace it with a solid bolt !!
