cave diving in Alabama

I am taking a child to spacecamp in Huntsville Alabama in mid August 2007. I'll have a lot of free time and wondered if there is any cave diving in that area. Thanks

There are a lot of cave dives in the Huntsville area, a couple right downtown. They are colder, smaller, and lower vis than FL. I don't suppose you are sidemount? There are several that can be done backmount. Oh yea, there are no picnic tables

Each red flag is a cave dive site.



Over half of the ones flagged have never even been dived.

You are right in the middle of 9000+ caves, and you want to go to AL?

Huntsville is closer than about 4500 of those TN caves, and since my primary interest is in the critters, and AL has species found no where else on earth.....well, How can I not want to go? I've already been going over my list of north alabama caves where cool cave creatures are known to be and some where they are only suspected.... would be a nice feather in the ole cap to move some from suspected to verified. and the opportunity to see a member of a species that exists no where else, well, that's a rush all by itself!

Around 58 degrees. It doesn't bother me at all, but some of the FL guys have complained bitterly
