Thread: HID bulbs

  1. #1

    Default HID bulbs

I was wondering for a 10 watt HID bulb, are they the same exact bulb in all the lights? So if I had a bulb that burnt out from one manufacture and put it into different manufacture's 10w HID light system, would it work?

Sorry don't want to company names hope you guys understand what I'm saying.

Some lights use the same bulb as other brands, but others don't.

Just tell us which light you have, and some of the light experts on the forum can steer you where to find a replacement.

i have the dive rite 10 w non-adjust head. My bulb burnt out and I'm looking for another bulb preferably less expensive than from dive rite. If anyone can point me in a cheaper direction I will be greatly appreciative.

How old is the lighthead? If I am not mistaken DR changed from Welch Allen bulbs over to Brightstar bulbs sometime during the past couple of years. My old DR MR11 used WA, but I am not sure what the newer models are burning.

its a WA bulb, I checked WA's website and it was 126 dollars there, for that amount I might as well go to the LDS and support them. Was hoping that I could find the bulb for under 100 somewhere

If you look around hard enough you might, but it is doubtful. WA has always been the one that was way overpriced and most fragile. The last one I bought (WA 10w for MR11) was a number of years back and they were $100+ then.

The ballast serves two fuctions. It provides the high voltage necessary to start the arc, and then limits the current through the lamp.

thanks all, i appreciate all the help, I decided to go ahead and replace both the bulb and ballast, and therefore basically have a brand new light.
