    Default Lafayette Blue Question

    A question about Lafayette Blue. The map I had looked liked Blue connected through to Green Sink and beyond, but when I dove Blue, in the state park over the holidays, it terminated in what I think is called Snake Sink with no visible lead after a 250ft swim. After talking to the ranger, he directed us to another sink, just outside the state park off of Blue Spring Road, with steps leading down. Is this Green Sink? Does Blue connect to Green with swimable passage? What's the best way to enter the Green Sink system? Visibility was about 20ft, is that typical of this system. Thanks.

    Blue -> Snake (big swim/wade) -> Green

    I have never seen over 30 in the system.

    The beginning of the head spring is a series of two resurgence/insurgence before continuing on,but there are many sinks to continue. It should be a straight shot with the line in fairly obvious location when we relined it. Visibility will increase up to 40' when the aquifer is well charged,but the system will have a strong current. Due to the drought conditions have deteriorated and will continue to worsen due the recent rains-probably close to 10-15' right now.

    I've been diving that system for years via Kitty Sink and Trap Sink and have rarely seen visibility better than 15' - 20'. Stick with Peacock or Little River or some of the other clearer systems in the area and you'll have more enjoyable dives - and see a lot more.
