    TDI Certification(s)

Sorry for having to post this on tech divers but, over the
Christmas holidays several divers showed up at Madison Blue
Springs with TDI Cave Diver C-cards and were turned away (we DO
NOT recognize, nor accept TDI cave certifications at Madison).
In a effort to save anybody holding one of these cards the
trouble of driving all the way to Madison, I would like to post
the guidelines for the"cave diving" cert's that we do accept at
    Madison.

    1. We recognize all cave diver certification cards of all
levels that are issued by the NACD, NSS/CDS, or GUE.

    2. We honor cave diver certifications by other agencies if the
training committee(s) of one or more of the following, the
NACD, NSS/CDS, or GUE officially recognize the other agency
instructors in a instructor crossover capacity. (i.e. IANTD
cave instructors are officially acknowledged and recognized by
    the NACD Training Committee)

    3. Cave diving certifications from non-profit organizations
whose sole purpose evolves around cave conservation, and/or
preservation are also honored. Provided that the agency has a
sound published teaching curriculum and certification
standard(s) that are enforced within the agency, and they
coincide with those of the NACD or the NSS/CDS. The agency must
also be officially registered as non-profit in the country or
region of its origin (i.e. CDAA).

    4. Any for profit organizations that have a w.w.w. site must
post a list of all active status cave instructors, keep it
up-dated, and available for public review on their web site in
order for their c-cards and/or instructors to be accepted at
Madison Blue Springs for cave diving activities. If the
organization does not have a web site, then a written copy of
the instructor listing(s) shall be provided by that
organization upon a formal written request by Madison Blue
Spring within 14 days of notification.

    5. Madison Blue Springs reserves the right to make any changes,
and/or amendments it so deems necessary to any of its written
    policy and/or rules.

Back in the 70's and 80's before Bruic owned Madison the basin was quite clear and free of algae. When Bruic bought it he damned up the run to make the basin a bit larger and slow the current. This had the effect of allowing a lot of algae to take over in the basin. In my opion it would be nice to clear out the run again and allow the current in the basin to increase. Maybe this would get rid of the algae? Maybe not? As far as the platform goes may as well leave it. I must admit it is nice to hang deco bottles on and to deco around. In the 70's and 80's I used to deco on the wall above the entrance to try and get out of the current so I could be warmer. However, this would sometimes be a problem with all the locals at that time trying to jump off the edge and visit/hit you.

I visited the park and dove the system for the first time this weekend. I really enjoyed the diving but I was disappointed not to find tank stands like those at PSSP. I live in South Florida, but I would be willing to come up for a weekend and/or contribute to a fund if one was established to purchase materials for 8 or 10 stands.

The park has got to want them and Madison isn't under the same management as Peacock. But, don't worry there is a very good chance you will see some in the near future.

I agree with TJ...I would help with some funds for tank stands at Madison. But having the picnic tables there help alot...Especially for us ol' Minnesotan TRUNK DIVERS...
(Yea , I know ... Get a truck there Beano)

So if someone lets me know where I can contribute to this worthy cause , let me know! I know I could probably do it directly at the park also (will check with Rangers etc...)

This is the posting I remember, as I understood it you either had to be be GUE certified or a current GUE member with certifications by other agencys.
Needless to say, at the time I was NOT pleased, since I saw JJ's formation of GUE as disloyal act against the NACD which he at that time was the training director of.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Heres the deal if you want to dive Madison Blue Spring. You must either =
be certified by GUE, "or" be a active GUE member. This means that if you =
have a NSS/CDS, NACD or IANTD cave card, you can still dive Madison as =
long as you are also a member of GUE.

He worked there and didn't even know that "Madison" is not the name of the spring.

    Default When did this happen

When did Mike go GUE crazy? Was it between the AK47 incident and his final sentencing? I was friends with mike when they bought Madison Blue Springs (help Russell?) He might have even bought the AK from my dive buddy. He was not this militant then. Did the stress of the court case make hime this way.

Okay!! Somehow this topic made it from "We probably should remove that dang ole ugly platform cuz it just ain't natural" to "what's the history behind that dang ole ugly platform" to "let's build us some dang ole ugly tank stands" and finally to "someone going crazy and having a dang ole ugly AK-47 incident" on account of some nefarious GUE inspired lunacy.
I don't recall when I've been more intrigued. I'm wringing my hands and generating copius amounts of drool.
PLEASE!! PLEASE!! PLEASE!! Tell us all more about the AK-47 incident!
    Talk about a cliffhanger.

I dived Madison twice last week, and a number of times in the past year.

I like the platform. Great place to drop deco bottles and hang out after the dive.

I was thrilled to have picnic tables to gear up from. Maybe cause we have to do it out of the back of our cars at the springs in Missouri. Besides, the tables are also good for the tourists--us divers may not be the only ones who use the park, but we are the only ones who have any use for those butt-high tank stands at Peacock.

I didn't see any GUE divers when I was there. If they were, they were well-disguised with right-hip D-rings, Trans-Pacs, dive computers, and dive lights held in the right hand.

I may have been in the company of some folks who have AK-47s, but they weren't braggin' about it or shootin' em around the spring.

The place is a truly excellent dive, though. So glad it got reopened!
