    Default Very small spools

I've seen some really small spools that held around 25' of line. These are nice if you know you are doing some short jumps because they are so easily stored and you can easily carry several if necessary.

Problem is, I can't locate where to buy these - does anyone know who sells these?

Now I get it... you are talking about while the spool is stowed and not while it's deployed. Gotcha.

No, my intended use is putting the spools in drysuit pockets. Reels are a bit bulky for that.

Quick question because I can't remember. I looked at the LG/Ralph Hood reels yesterday at CEE, but I can't remember if there was a double ender on it, or a fixed snap bolt. Anyone know offhand?

It was good seeing you yesterday Perrone! The reels in question have a fixed snap bolt (which can be removed if you wish!). Glad to hear you had fun at Manatee.....

    Fixed brass snap bolt.

Those are some handy little spools for short gaps (the ones that a lot of folks would rather visual than actually tie in a jump.) Try them with some #18 line on them, works great.

The left column, middle row item. Walmart Qzark camping cloth reel is $1.98, clips are $.98 (for two), poly line must be replaced with nylon braded. About 30'. Optionally (instead of the fragile original knob) may drill 3/8-1/2" holes on a side for easy finger grip. Locking mechanism is simple: loop of pony tail band ziptied through the handle and over the clip. Body halves are glued together. Slip easy in a pocket. The total cost is negligible to leave in a cave while setting up routes.

    Thanks ARY,

But given my beginner status in caving, I think I'll just stick with the open face delrin for the time being.

    Hey Rich,

Thanks, I looked the reels over but forgot that little detail. I think I prefer the double-ender, but I do understand that the double-ender can come unsnapped if you put it on backwards. At least with the Halcyon/Salvo style handles.

Yea, we had a blast at Manatee. No real penetration just showed some people the ledge at the top of the cavern at Catfish, then showed them the grim reaeper sign to help them understand to stay out. They were fasciated at actually seeing line run for the first time.

Ran into a couple guys that afternoon who'd done about 7kft. Looked like they had a good time.

Overall a great weekend of diving, unfortunately no cave dives.
