Anyone planning a galaxy dive at Ginnie on Dec 31st? Has there ever been a galaxy dive at JB?

What is a galaxy dive?
YOU obviously need to experience one. Basically it is somewhere between a half and full gallon of glowstick goo activated and released into the spring flow in the cavern... still the coolest dive I have ever done and not being promoted much in the last several years (at least not CDF promoted).

Russell Edge used to organize the Galaxy Dives. It took some doing to get Ginnie to allow non-campers to remain on property after midnite for the dive. In addition to organizing who-brings-what for the party and bonfire. Russell stopped organizing the Galaxy dives a few years ago.

yeah, he had told me to reach out about October a couple of years ago to give him enough time... and then life happened. Going to be somewhere in Florida Dec 31st and was HOPING it was happening on its own accord... Might be east, might be west... so the thought of has it ever happened on the millpond hit my thought process...

Instead of releasing gallons of "non-toxic" chemicals in a cave, setting a precedent for others, what if ... we didn't?
It always seemed oxymoronic that cave divers concerned about cave conservation are releasing chemical sticks into the cave and the water, with all of it entering the river. If we aren't willing to eat it, then having fish ingest it is the least of our concern. A cavern becomes a cave at night, so it also seems oxymoronic that we are asking cave divers to turn off the their primary light source and have no guideline.

OH the hate... could this possibly turn into one of my classic threads that goes for hundreds of posts? I mean CDF needs some life added back to it. I agree doing a galaxy dive every weekend is excessive but when compared to just ONE outboard motor running up the river it is NOTHING... some people enjoy putting millions of Christmas lights up, I enjoy the galaxy dives when they happen and I can attend. I mean how many of you have gone to the native lawns that conserve water and eliminate who knows how much carbon monoxide/dioxide from being released by a lawn mower (not to mention the fuel wasted). Just a few thoughts.
