Default Distance on 95's in Ginnie

What is a respectable distance to achieve on the main line at Ginnie with a set of 95's. I know flow will dictate but I'm curious how far everyone is getting on thirds and 95's this year. My buddy and I dove it for the second time and got back to 1,100 which we thought was respectable but since there is a lot of technigue involved with the pull and glide we don't really know.

All you guys with scooters can sit this out .

There are people who make it to the Hinkle (and back too) on a backgas. You may set it as a personal goal

About 1200-1300 feet distance is all I can get with a set of double 95's pumped up to ~ 3400 psi with EAN32. But then again, I am only Apprentice Cave certified and still working on my Full Cave cetification, so my input should be taken for what it's worth. My Instrustor said I should be able to get farther then that and I still need to work on my technique in dealing with high flow and finding the best place to be (lower flow, finding eddies, reverse flows, etc.). I am still burning too much air from the primary reel tie-in to the lips, after that, finding the best course and air consumption gets better.

In order to avoid perturbing rknazik, I'll sit this one out.

    Default You are fine

There is nothing wrong just keep working on technique Like was said the biggest place you are burning gas is in the front.
You are excited to be in the water, you just fought through the ear to tie-off your reel. If you are not a runner it is going to take 2-5 minutes for your heart rate to drop. Some people will dash off for the lips after all this effort how about trying this next time. After you tie off float up to the ceiling and just relax for one minute. Then head in using good technique and see if you don't do better. One word of caution. Don't judge your dive by feet of main line!! but by what you saw and remember after the dive. Anyone can pull and glide to 1300 feet but did they see the cool goethite formations or do the swim through in Hill 400? There is alot to see. And isn't that really why we cave dive otherwise you could just run 2000 feet of line on the bottom of a lake and see how far you can swim on a third of your gas.

Back when I used to concern myself with distance on the main line I used to swim to double domes as a benchmark for backgas (HP120's about the same air as 95's). That's about 2000'. A more then respectabe distance.

While it was probably good exercise I didn't get much chance to look around on the way rushing like that. I can swim at a much more relaxed pace, make it nearly as far and see a lot more of the cave taking my time and having a relaxing dive.

i remember being right out of full cave and all i cared about was how far back i got. i my first full cave dive was at Ginnie and we got to the 1600ft mark on backgas. if all you focus on is distance you will miss the interesting things. forget about what is 100ft down the mainline and start focusing on whats down that side tunnel that you have never been down.

Russell, you are my gas use hero I suppose I could get you to turn on thirds first if I knocked one of your burst disks loose, but then again, maybe not

Didn't you used to post as rknazik? Or is that another board?

Thanks for the responses. I'm not trying to go farther or judge a dive by the distance of main line but rather trying to find a baseline for what is normal/expected. Like I said it was our second time in the Devils cave system and was curious about how much improvement we can achieve over where we are at now. Most of our dives have been in low flow caves. It's more for improvement of technique rather than wanting to go further. Also, we typicaly stay to main line in a new system.

    Thanks for the input.
