    Default Johnny Richards

Folks please don?t let this turn into a flame throwing event. If it does, I ask the mods to lock the post.

I am simply wondering if anyone has contact information for Johnny. I know he is no longer part of the Cave diving community. He was my instructor and we formed a personal bond. I?m just trying to catch up with him to see how he?s doing. If anyone has contact information, please message me directly.

Please do not rehash the issues from years ago.

I’ve been out of the loop. Is he no longer cave diving?

Sadly bashing people seems to be common, but he is the one that initiated the drive to get Emerald open, even with fierce resistance. I too have lost track of him, and hope you have success. Try some of the NACD officers back in the day, eg Larry Green, Jeff Bauer etc.

With the Memorial Day "Celebration" finally over at Ginnie, I thought I'd share an email that Johnny sent me on April 26, 2010 entitled "Ginnie Folk"...

"Yesterday at Ginnie Hell, I saw an old four-door Oldsmobile - car, not truck - with lettering on the back window that said "Big Ass White Boy" and a set of humongous fake white balls complete with humongous nutsack hanging from the trailer hitch (?). The door opened and - you guessed it - A Big Ass White Boy, his two Big Ass White Boy buddies and their three Big Ass White Boy girlfriends peeled out of the car. I have been in tattoo parlors that had way less tattoos than this assortment of human waste - naturally the guys had no shirts and huge beer guts, the women (?) had halter tops, beer guts and tattoos - and short shorts, of course.

I quit a long time ago saying "I've seen it all" when hanging around the Stroke Pit, but today reminded me why I will never use that sentence when visiting that gawdawful soulless hellhole. I only regret that I didn't have a camera to capture the magic moment for eternity.

Shortly after arriving here, meeting Hancock, hearing about Squalor Holler and witnessing firsthand some of the assorted personalities at Little River and Telford parking lots, I had the idea to do a coffee table book entitled "North Florida White Trash - A Tourist's Guide to the Life of Biscuits, Booze and Broads in the Deep South" or something along those lines. I found the cover shot today.

    Holy Shiite!!!!!

    Johnny"

Kinda makes one pine for "The Good Old Days"?

My buddy and I did Cavern through Full Cave with Johnny and heard similar stories. Obviously, we did not dive Gunnie on holidays.

I did my cavern + intro with Johnny 10 years ago with my brother. He was militant, but we were quite prepared coming out of the course. I have an old signature from emails with a phone number - I don't know if it's his cell or current, but I'll PM it.

He wants to be left alone. Respect that.
I went from cavern to adv trimix with him - damn near every weekend for 4 years.
I like him very much - such a talented and very good instructor. He's a legend, a BMF.
