Cookie vs bread clip.

I haven't used these plastic bag clips yet, just cookie varieties and clothespins, but I have seen others using them. I am making a note to grab a couple next time I go shopping and give them a go. I wonder if the grip can be improved some with rubber sheeting and the spring replaced (if it corrodes too much in fresh water).

Theyre cheap as dirt. Changing springs would be a waste of time and effort. Just go into it knowing they will corrode and they will slide.

I did try heating some marine shrink tubing onto one for more grip. Wouldnt stick but I also stupidly didnt sand the plastic first.

Man I wish someone could make a line marker that’s quick to put on and doesn’t have any springs to corrode.

What if it was shaped like a circle and had two slits in it it capture the line? A simple twist to put it on and take it off? Someone should make that.

Springs corroding,is that a real concern for something cheap, disposable, and will only be on the line for a short duration. I like clothes pins due to simplicity and fast as an easy marker, but corrosion was never an issue, and if it is, throw it away, and lost the 10 cents. I have used clothes pins as survey markers, and returned to a heavily tannic river cave to find a clothes pin I forgot 10 years ago. The spring functioned fine.

not really; but ive had boltsnaps that i thought were fully stainless stick / seize from a rusted spring at the worst possible time. not a 'never shall you ever', just a be aware thing.

obviously salt vs fresh comes into play for lifetime expectancy. even then, it's not gonna break the bank.

not my speed, but to each their own. only two caveats with em i know of, 1) springs are typically not stainless, 2) they slide pretty easily on the line.

in the UK the CDG use clothes pegs. we normally put our initials on them. they are the only thing that fits on heavy line and are easy to use with gloves on.

Love the idea, hate the "cheap, disposable" factor. No need to have more plastic to trash the already trashed planet.
