I just created a new tool (I think).
A Butt Strap Bougie.
Thanks to repair surgery on my back, I have lost a lot of flexibility in my low back. Biggest problem is trying to bend over and grab the butt strap when donning my side mount.
Paramedics trying to shove an ET tube into your lungs use a (sterile) plastic wire inside the ET tubt that is stiff enough to hold the ET tube into whatever shape is needed to get around your throat's anatomy and get into your lungs.
I put a stiff wire (16 ga solid copper) into a rope, and made the rope ridgid enough to hold it's shape. I clip the short rope onto my butt ring, and pass the rope between my legs without having to bend my back. But the rope/wire is still flexible enough to roll into a ball, and throw in my bag.
