Dive Rite had a 400ft primary reel that was closed face, and it was advertised as jam free. Murphy will always strike, especially when something is declared as jam free.

Guaranteed jam free? My peanut butter sandwiches.
I have a few of those yellow reels as well. They, along with a bunch of their relatives, reside in my reel crate with little hope of seeing the inside of a cave again.
I actually do not recall having one of them getting jammed. I do recall the tension knob loosening and leaking out some line without me knowing. However, I switched to spools for that amount of line.

These I think are cheaper copies of the original version. This version can jam if they get sand or gritty mud in them. They can also jam when the adhesive fails and the reel starts to migrate away from the cover. I too had a couple of these before I switched to spools.
