I agree the markers should be left on the line, they're extremely useful. When diving. I don't see many arrows at all in Telford and would like to see Telford marked every 100ft like the others caves A big thanks to those who give there time to keep the caves safe with new line and arrows it is much appreciated.![]()
Little River is my "back yard" cave. I think the relining and position line arrows a great service to the community.
I think we as a diving community need to invoke peer pressure on those removing or altering the line arrows. Liability wise, they would be found neglegent in a civil court if litigation were to come from an accident.
If the names of those individuals are known, than let's have all the shops in the area decline to fill any of thier cylinders.
Again, thanks guys for the great work.....Ken.
It is obvious that some dedicated and caring people work very hard to place the arrows in a cave system and it is very difficult to imagine why others would want to remove them. I would be very interested in what is going on in the heads of those that would take those arrows out. I confess that it is beyond my ability to understand why anyone would do something like that. I just don't get it.
I agree, they can be very usefull and should be left alone.Originally Posted by Signal 20

One of my instructors said, "don't touch the line". Now, tell me how you remove an arrow, and not touch the line? One place we dive, has one arrow, remove it, and you're going the wrong way, with the toss of a coin.
One way to solve the problem of temporary(survey) or permanent distance line arrows being removed from a line is to secure them with nylon tie wraps and then snip off the excess.
I think having a reference as to how far you went or have to go is a very valuable tool. I keep track of where and how far I have been in the caves I dive. The distance markers and a map make great reference sources for those of us who enjoy doing that sort of thing. I see no real use or convincing argument for removing or moving the distance markers.
I also noticed that none of the individuals who are in disagreement with the marking and relining project have voiced their position and rationale for opposing and/or disagreeing with it. Most disturbing...
If their disagreement pertains to political or personal reasons then it should be taken care of at the surface and face to face, not in the dark when no one is looking.
Dive safe,

Maybe it is time to start naming agencies and names to put pressure on them to get this stopped. And if it is reported enough maybe get that agency and people banned from dive sites.
Color me dumb.....but.....what certification agency would not want to use line arrows with distance markers to reduce the risk?
