Andrew passed away two days ago while cave diving; doing something he enjoyed. He was a long time diver and known by many. Many more know him via social media as Andrew was prolific at posting useful and helpful comments. His username on this site was AAINSLIE. Condolences to his family. He will be missed.

I just checked the CDF to see that Andrew died two days ago at Ginnie. I had read something about an accident, but then nothing else until tonight.
I shot this photo as per Debra Green's request to photograph the 2009 NACD seminar. As I recall, Andrew got up to speak about some new Ginnie exploration, and this was my favorite photo from that day. I sent it to Andrew days after the seminar and he thanked me.

I never met Andrew, but his writing definitely influenced me and the way I teach in a positive way. My condolences to his family and gratitude to the recovery team for their work.

I opened up the Boulder, Colorado newspaper a couple days ago and saw the obituary for Andrew. I had no idea he had moved to Colorado and that we were near neighbors. I have of course known him for a long time through his online presence as a cave diver. I did not know, either, of his significant accomplishments in the world of academia. His was not an insignificant life.
