Default How many CCR hours in ow?

How many hours did you put in before you started cave diving with your CCR? Is there a 35 or 50 hour standard? Seems like some people take their unit into a cave straight after training. A buddy of mine did his mod1 in a cave.
    Is there a general consensus?

I had a out 20 hiurs before doing some cavern stuff a few bours. Then slow progressive penetration into the cave. Im just starting to do bigger dives than I used to on cc about 3 years later. But about 8-9 months of that dont count due to being out of the water for a pfo

TDI Requires 50 hours for the "rebreather full cave" training, but you can start with cavern and intro level training with 25. Which means you either need to get 25 hours in between starting entry level cave training on the unit and starting to do the full cave level training dives, or just wait 'till you've got the 50 hours. If you are already OC cave, you can do a crossover to rebreather full cave, but you'll need 50 hours before to start.

IANTD is pretty much the same, except if you are not OC cave trained and want to go zero to hero to ccr cave, you need 100 ccr dives (hours not specified) to start.

If you are already cave trained, and are just looking to jump into the caves without ccr cave specific training (which I certainly do not recommend), well there's no standard for that. If the dive site allows it, then it's up to you.

NSS-CDS has the lowest requirements at 25 dives and 35 hours to go zero to hero

Jon had a good point I forgot. I was doing cavern and baby cave dives after 20 hours. But i had around 75 hours when I did cave ccr. After that is when I actually started doing real cave dives

I was under the impression that lots of people with oc cave experience don't take CCR cave. Some folks who took CCR told me you might as well just read about BA planning and that'll cover what's in the class. I don't know, it's just what I've been told. I figured that I'll just bring 3/4 the amount of gas I would take oc for the same dive as BA and start doing shorter dives within the first 1500 feet or so and see how it goes.

Kinda depends regionally. You can't get into many of the FL caves without proper certification, in Mexico you'll be shunned by the local dive shops if you try. But just because it's required doesn't mean that all training is created equal, I know a lot of experienced cave divers who thought their CCR Cave training was a waste of time and money, and others who took a lot away from it. Depends on the instructor and whether they are willing to put in the time and effort to really push the student for improvement, as well as the diver's willingness/openness to learning. But overall, there should be a lot more involved in a CCR cave class than just bailout planning.

I took it because I needed a Ginnie card. I took it with Ken and it was an excellent class. I learned things I had never been taught before. But there are quite a few instructors who just take you on a couple long dives and pass you without teaching anything.
