Default Hurricane Elsa - Cave Impact?

Was originally thinking about coming up on Thursday and diving thru the weekend. But assume Elsa is going to wipe out the diving. I hear most of the caves are close to flooding so thinking even if not a direct hit, the rain alone will make it a wasted weekend?

Am I missing anything? Any chance it is worth still coming up?

Its not the perfect time to come, but I wouldnt say you?re guaranteed to get skunked. The water that leads to the floods is a combination of local rainfall and the rainfall in the panhandle and georgia. So theres no real way of saying 100%. It takes time for the rain from ga to get here. Most could stay diveable for a day or a week or more. Its more a matter of do you want to put the effort and money into it if it you do end up showing up and nothings divable. I would suspect Ginnie will be diveable and wont be closed due to reversal in the next week. They may close for safety due to winds and their trees. I could be totally wrong. Its just my educated guess mixed with the fact that I live with someone?s whose job is to study river levels and cave hydrology of north florida. I listen to what she says a little but also have my own thoughts which she often proves wrong. So its a crapshoot.

This probably ia a guarantee with the state parks, and Ginnie too, since a few years ago they had a camper killed by a falling tree limb.

Ginnie Website shows them closed until Thursday. Re-opening will be updated/changed if needed on Wed.

Current spaghetti models show high probability of direct hit on High Springs/Gainesville area.

I see posts like this regularly. When some caves go under others get better. There is always something to dive.

For what it's worth, the storm was a nonissue here in St Pete (2 hours south of HS). It was overcast with on and off showers all day with the occassional strong rain or wind. It started to pick up around midnight and the worst was at about 4AM. It was all mild. Just some patchy hard rain mixed in with drizzle and some occassional high wind gusts (40s-50s). It was no worse than a bad rain storm. Really has had minimal impact. No major branches down in the streets, just leaves and minor small debris. No major power outages that I've seen. Really nothing at all.
