Default Have you been waiting to go to Mexico?

For any of you whom have wanted to head over to the Yucatan peninsula and squeeze in some mexican cave diving... now is the time! Yes, I know, pandemic and all... but seriously, flights have gotten super cheap (mine was $400 including all baggage), nothing is busy, the diving is fantastic, pandemic regulations are minimal (bring a mask) and after all, who couldn't use a vacation?
My buddy and I are staying at Protec in Tulum, we literally have the place to ourselves. The other pair in our group is staying at an Air BNB... holy crap, its cheap! Service has been awesome, the dives even better, so what are you waiting for?

Waiting for not having to go through airport terminals during a pandemic. And you wouldn’t have the place to yourselves if we all came, too. Mexico doesn’t want my germs.

Thankfully the airports and flights were less than 1/2 capacity. I was upgraded to first class on both legs.

I'll be finishing my advanced cave and maybe staged cave next month in Playa. I was scared to go but I am hearing that things are much safer there than here. I'm now really looking forward to heading down. I'm staying in an Airbnb though. I'm still going to cook my own meals and stay out of resturants. Only thing I'm gonna catch is a cave cootie!

Safer in Mexico than here? Things must have changed dramatically. My last, and only trip to Mexico included being kidnapped, robbed, beaten and left in the desert by the police.

It has. Mexico is not the same as it was 15 years ago. Its even changed dramatically in the last 5 years. I know you?ve set your mind on not going back, but my wife, our friends, and I feel safer to walk down the street than most places in the US (. I grew up in cities so even in the US i?m not often nervous). People are generally friendly, locals appreciate that we are giving them money they wouldnt have otherwise, and crime against foreigners in quintana roo is very uncommon. The police are not like they were. Our first time in mx years ago we were concerned about police issues. We never had any. And each year theres less and less overt police presence. Really the criminals now are the gas statiom attendants and the mexican tsa equivalent. But even then our worst experience is having to overpay for gas because I didnt have small enough bills. They played dumb like they had no change and we were in a rush tk get to the airport.

I can undersrand not wanting to go back based on your experience. But I can guarantee its a different place. Honestly the biggest issues sre dealing with other dumb americans and some of the clueless hippies.

+1 on this... 6th trip here in the past couple years, always a positive experience... well except for getting trapped at the dive site today where they are raising cocks for fighting! (We survived)

If the monkey at Dos Palmas is still alive, avoid him. He seems really nice and will let you pet him and likes attention. He got up on my wife's shoulder and when she tried to get him off of her he latched onto her neck for dear life. All attempts to help just made the death grip worse. He eventually gave up. That was like 7 years ago so he's probably long gone

    Where that with the cockfighting

Here they call that detained, civil forfeiture, resisting with violence and escape/unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
