    I live here in Tulum and feel far safer here than I did in any big city anywhere else in the world. There has been a rise in drug related crime, but you are pretty safe unless you are standing next to a drug dealer in the early hours. There is always opportunistic crime, but sensible precautions (not leaving your laptop on your car seat etc) are effective.

    Well, it's like any big city in reality-

    Go looking for trouble, you will find it. Keep your nose out of areas and situations that you shouldn't be in to begin with, you're very unlikely to get in trouble.
