I was in Tulum at the start of June right when things were beginning to open up. I think I was the only tourist in town. My first night in town I stopped at the gourmet sandwich shop to see if they'd let me sit down. They said that no I couldn't, but if I went to the little table hidden behind their wall, they'd be happy to let me sit there. All the restaurants opened up mid-week and the expats started to mill around town again. The only bad thing about June was the mosquitoes were so bad that Kelvin, Ivo, and I drove back from the dive sites in our drysuits more than once.

Its been years since we?ve been to vaca ha. They may not have had their birds back then.

We?ll be there mid-october. It?ll be nice doing one long ccr dive compared to the 2 oc dives a day we usually do there. More time to take it easy in the morning and stull time for afternoon pre-dinner tacos or pollo bronco. Sometimes that second oc dive cuts into taco time

We had a trip schedule for june but had to cancel. Tourism didnt open up until what would?ve been the 3rd to last day of our trip

Well, it's clear we know what is happening to the losing chickens.

I just got back from a week diving with Under the Jungle. I felt fine, covid-wise, in Mexico and the flight on SW was about half full, not too bad. It was great to have the cenotes almost completely empty. I did my sidemount class with Nat, and had a couple of days left over for some fun dives. I've been diving backmount down there for years, finally joined the cool kids and went sidemount. I had a great time. I was pretty careful, mostly ate in and avoided people whenever possible. From what I was told, it's been totally dead down there all summer but now divers are gradually coming back.

In terms of general safety in Mexico, I have traveled quite a bit throughout the country, and other than DF and the border towns, I have always felt very safe.

The most exciting thing that happened was the mexican TSA telling me my aluminum 13s are considered weapons and couldn't be carried on. I showed him the big blue video lights I was also carrying on are much better weapons, so they let me through.

I did a week at Protec in June (where I did an awesome Sidewinder crossover) and am in Cozumel now. Flights are cheap. The towns are empty. If I didn't just adopt a dog, I'd probably just work remotely from here until I had to physically show up in a classroom. The diving is fantastic right now and the shops could really use your business.
