    Default Running line at Ginnie

So it has been a few years since my last dive at Ginnie.. had someone up here in dry cave country tell me that we are not supposed to run line when going into the Eye (and possibly even the ear)... just saw a recent video and the stop sign has definitely moved closer to OPEN WATER...

    So whats the scoop?

The line at the Eye comes out to a "Safe Exit" point. There is nothing that says you cannot run a line from open water into the start of the gold line.

    Default Running line at Ginnie

The line has been moved closer to the exit and you can see daylight from it.There were people running line all over each other so the idea was to decrease lines. At no point had it been suggested not to allow people to run line. If you havent been in ginnie in a while run a line to be safe. No one can ever tell you you cant run a line.

Thank you guys... may be a while before I get to Ginnie again... but definitely nice to know the line has moved.

The old gold line is still pretty much where you remember it. The starting point was just just extended all the way up to the first chamber of the eye, that’s around ~35’ depth.

The line position, in relation to the ear is unchanged. (At least not significantly).

There are also a couple jumps in the mud tunnel area that were changed to Ts.

so starting point equates start of gold line, correct?

Completely in favor of the change that was implemented to extend the eye line to the cavern. The ancient philosophy that the line should start well into the cave so that it does not tempt OW divers just doesn't work in a popular place like Ginnie. All it does is forcing people to make the fun choice between adding to the tangle of lines at the entrance or not running line at all. It would not be a bad idea to T the gold line to the ear restriction as well and mark it as closest exit... Not that anyone listens to my mindless blunders.

I don’t think it’s safe for a place like Ginnie, but in France most of the lines are run to the surface. Often run to a tree or rock outside of the water. It definitely makes life easy and is safe since not many snorkelers around in that region to follow the line.
