Cave Diver Arrow last call for NSS-CDS members who aren't receiving their Underwater Speleology issues

The next issue is about ready to go to the printer...if you have been missing your copies and have not contacted Adam Hughes, you have a couple of days. You can reach him at CDSmanager@nsscds.org.

While I'm happy to help troubleshoot, please respond directly to Adam. I only check in here every two weeks or so. Adam will be sending me an updated roster shortly, so make sure you're on it if you're an NSS-CDS or CDS only member.

    Best,
    Barbara

One area to check is the list of members, and mailing list of UWS that you received , weren't identical. I was told I was on the list as a member, but I was omitted off UWS list.

As previous administrator of elections it is imperative you make sure your information ,such as email address, is current with the CDS. Future elections and you getting a ballot, depend on up to date info.

    Thanks Barbara

I’m still unable to renew a family membership on the website. So it’s now two years in a row I’ve chosen to not renew because I can’t get the website to work properly or get anyone at the cds to actually fix the problem. I’ve been tempted to just get two separate memberships to the cds for my wife and I but don’t feel as though I should have to. At this point the only thing that would make me do that is if I want to dive Cow and the cds still hasn’t fixed the issue.
Hopefully it will actually get fixed in the near future.

On edit: I have been told that the cds will honor my own membership as a family one but honestly if I did want to dive Cow I don’t know that that solution would work.

Hey Richard, donning my "property hat" -- that will work for Cow. Buy a family membership of the NSS, then get your regular membership in the CDS. I'll try and see if I can get with Adam to work through the family membership issue, and I'll bring it to the chairs attention.

I brought it to Adam's attention and Barbara was nice enough to reach out to me about the issue as well. Unfortunately that was a couple of months ago and it was supposed to be discussed at a board meeting but I never heard anything about it. Same thing happened last year so I chose not to renew. I'll wait until this issue's fixed unless I make plans to dive Cow. I know you can renew at Dive Outpost and I wonder if it would be easier to just renew a family membership there.

I recently became a life member of the NSS and it has made it difficult for me to figure out how to renew my CDS membership as well....

I know its a volunter organization and those doing the tedious work have real jobs that take precedent. But it seems as though these issues are costing the cds membership dues. I?m still confused on the cds only membership that doesnt require nss membership. When I looked on the website it appeared a cds only membership was more expensive. Hopefully these issues can get resolved. Other than access to Cow I really see no reason to renew. I think my money would be better used with the nfsa.

Adam (CDS Manager) works full-time, has a young family to care for, is actively diving and spends a lot of time drawing maps. Blah, blah, blah, he's busy like the rest of us, don't be afraid to ping him again if you don't get a response. The CDS doesn't have a full-time paid person to handle this stuff, so it's mostly volunteers holding the pieces together. All in all, they do an excellent job, but sometimes things fall through the cracks and I can promise you it wasn't intentional.

I recently renewed my membership and in the hopes that it helps people out, I'll describe the steps that I took here:
    1. Join and/or renew with the NSS.
    - 2 options, call the NSS office and renew over the phone, or do it on the website.
    - NSS Office number: 256-852-1300 This is probably the easiest, safest option and they can answer your questions in real-time. Keep in mind that they won't know how to answer your CDS-specific questions.

    2. Join and/or renew with the CDS.
    - Renew online, go here: https://members.caves.org/general/re...ember_type.asp Start at the bottom of the page where you choose membership type.

    - go here: https://nsscds.org/product-category/...-registration/
    - choose your membership level and "add to cart"
    - checkout on the NSS-CDS shop just like you're buying an item from any other website store.
    - You should get a handful of emails, including something from the CDS(probably Adam) confirming that it was received.

In recent years, a couple of things have changed with how the CDS processes memberships, so there's varying correctness to some of the information on the NSS and CDS webpages, but it's getting better and I'm sure it will soon be accurate. In the meantime, be patient and it'll all soon be fixed. Feel free to ask questions here or on the facebooks if you need help, either someone of the staff or board will step in to help, or you should be able to get a helping hand from another member. I felt pretty frustrated by the process a couple of months ago, but with some help I was able to get it all wrapped up. Hope this helps.

That doesn't fix the inability to renew a family membership. On the website it just doesn't work.
