Default Next Level Dive Club WTF?!

Not a fan of diver shaming, but this is more than I can take... Why is it that these people think it's a cool thing to stick a gazillion people in the Ginnie ballroom cavern one over the other and release huge quantities of toxic/carcinogenic glow stick sludge polluting the cavern and anything downstream? Also, zero COVID-19 awareness either. This is the same group that used to organize scooter races at Eagle's Nest, right?

Technically a night dive in a cavern is a cave dive. Unfortunately what will stop it will be someone panicking, and drowning, because I don't see Ginnie policing these activities. Things like this get reported as cave diving, and makes the community more defensive against cave divers. My biggest concern are the free divers entering caves that post their videos on You Tube. They have a light but no other redundancy, and when an accident does occur, it will be a cave diving incident.

Just call it a protest and you don't have to worry. Maybe they torched the front office on the way out so it is all cool.

The next level dive club is very well known here on tampa bay for having a large percentage of cocky yet horrible divers. They do a lot of stupid stuff. Since the walkway opened at Buford they?ve had massive groups show up to dive. They also blocked our exit from Ginnie during my cave crossover class. We were having some issues while exiting and rather than clear the way they kept swimming up to us videoing and checking us out (they had no clue we were having a minor issue. They were clueless). My wife and I really despise that group. They post a lot of dumb stuff.
Secondly I hate galaxy dives. The Cdf group that got together for New Year?s Eve always did one and it really bothered me. We all preach conservation but yet we go and release a susbstance that we have no clue if it?s toxic to the aquatic life? Makes no sense.

It doesn’t seem like Ginnie is policing anything anymore. I’m slowly becoming disgusted with them. If you saw the number of people they had in the park by 8:15 his past Sunday it would scare you. I’ve been to Ginnie on every major holiday weekend. This Sunday beat them all. We signed in, drove halfway to the spring run and decided to leave. There was zero effort by anyone there to social distance and Ginnie made no attempt to enforce it. They seemed to be at max capacity, which during these times just shouldn’t happen. I could easily see Ginnie getting shut down.

I enjoyed a nice dive at ginnie today. There were way more people there than expected or usual for a week day. There were also people all over the stairs not getting in or out just hanging out like always which is super annoying and only allowed 1 ft of social distancing. I'm happy to have been treated like an adult with my own brain and ability to accept the risk for myself to enter the park or not without the government or park having to step in and decide if it's safe for me or others.

I enjoy knowing that if there's someone out there who's immuno compromised or has lung issues or doesn't want to accept the risk then they have the right to stay home and stay away from anyone they don't think is isolating enough. Nobody is forcing them or anyone else to have contact with those hooligans who are out and about trying to live their lives.

Covid doesn't go away by hiding in the closet or wearing a mask. It only goes away when there's either a vaccine or a large percentage of the population has already been infected. I don't see any vaccine. What's the problem with letting those who accept the risk go the herd immunity route? Really they're doing everyone else a favor and speeding up the timeline for getting back to normal.

Although it would be great to stop the virus completely, its not really the reasoning behind social distancing. Did you think that one of the reasons could be that the Hospitals cant handle everyone having the virus at the same time and by slowing the spread they can treat more people over time?

Seasonal flu vaccine is less than 50% effective, so don't expect much more with a Covid19 vaccine. The second half of your comment is how we handled H1N1

Actually things like social distancing, wash your hands, stay away when you are sick etc are part of the public health message we get every year at the start of seasonal flu season. We as a population tend to blow off seasonal flu and ignore the public health message. A lot of the hospitals have been completely under utilized, and in some cases staff has been furloughed. Even NYC dismantled the field hospital and sent back the hospital ship Mercy.

The problem is that most experts believe you need about 70% of the population to have been exposed to get true herd immunity. We have about 2 million cases now, that would mean we would need about 200 million people to have been exposed in the US. With the current morbidity rate, that means over ten million deaths in the process, but even if the morbidity rate is cut by 50%, that's still about 5 million.

Now you may be able to get a faux herd immunity among a small group of friends, but most people interact with others when you go to a store or work. And you do not have my permission to make me or my family part of your "herd" by spreading your crap around.

You have the right to be as big of a douchenozzle as you want, but saying that potentially having a few million people die is somehow doing everyone a favor is idiotic.
