Jon Bernot, Jerry Murphy, and Ken Sallot are my top 3 picks. All are not only excellent divers but also excellent instructors.

Contact TJ at Dayo Scuba. The shop is on Orlando. He’ll hook you up with whatever you need...

You?ll probably get 50 recommendations so I wont give mine unless you?d really like to know and then i?ll be happy to pm you.

What I will say is that the instructor fees should not be a factor. Dont make your choice based on cost. Cave diving is pricey and your journey will only get pricier. Cost should not even come into the equation. If it does, consider a different hobby.

I did my full cave completion and cave ccr with James Draker and had a great experience. Although it was more in reference to ccr stuff,I remembered him telling me "don't be cheap"when it comes to safety. I think that's the best advice I've ever received in regards to cave diving. Cost is NOT what you should be evaluating an instructor on when it comes to tech diving, in general.
That doesn't mean the most expensive instructor is the best.... it just means that bargains aren't necessarily what you're looking for when you are getting this kind of training...

I notice you show Troy as your location and I am going to assume that is Troy Alabama. For you your closest diving opportunities will be Marianna, Fl, and it might be worthwhile to locate an instructor around there, because you will get to train in places you will dive recreationally. There are quite a few experienced dive instructors in the area. For what it is worth, go with someone that teaches a lot, and don't make price a deciding factor- these are survival skills you are learning, the best training and best equipment is needed for you to survive.

I've said this to many people many times and I'll say it again now.

If my kid wanted to advance in cave diving, and I were dead or no longer teaching, I would want my kid to seek instruction from Marissa.

There are a lot of great instructors. I am a fantastic instructor. I dive a lot, I teach more than I want, I am very thorough. But I am a giant a-hole to a lot of personality types. Marissa is passionate about cave diving, patient with her students, and thoughtful about how she conveys her info to a wide variety of personality and learning types.

It wouldn't matter where she lives or how much she charged, I would trust the safety of my child with her. And you'd understand just how big that recommendation is coming fr me if you knew I lost my 16 year old son just over a year ago

Totally agree with SL.... HOWEVER... no matter how many people suggest a given instructor... don't pick on references or cost... pick based on personality and how well you interact with whomever you think you are picking as an instructor.... doesn't matter how much or little you pay if you can't get along with them above water its just going to get worse below. You will be a much more effective learner when you click with your instructor. And just to clarify... this is NOT commentary concerning Marissa, she is who I normally refer people who are not in Florida...because she lives to teach/dive.

Why yes that was me in shorts and a t-shirt oops, a drysuit @ the 700' marker
