CDF Social 16 September. Please note that it will still be at Lafayette Blue. Thanks for your patience in understanding in advance.

** The cleanup is still on. We will be doing a cleanup there. Starting at 12 p.m. (noon) until... done...

Cleanup sponsored by the NACD and the Cave Diver's Forum and most importantly, all the folks that come out to clean it.

We are rescheduling the social for, most likely, September. Any comments or ideas on a date? Labor Day weekend or later in the month?

    Just an update for everyone.

The Lafayette Clean-Up will start at 12:00, August 19th. The NACD is helping to sponsor this event with the Cave Divers Forum and we will have a pavilion reserved for all of us.

The NACD will provide give aways for all who attend as well as some great raffle prizes. In addition food, snacks and drinks will be provided.

I look forward to seeing everyone there.

    Default humm

    Tj, Walter,

What does the clean up including? Is it just on the surface or do we need to bring dive gear for all the trash in the cave?

(ok, so I all ready know the answer but this is better than posting “BUMP” to get people to read this and show up to help support the park)

Top side is spotless, the cave needs help.

Bring your dive gear and a goodie bag to pickup old bottles, cans, that sorta thing. I would plan on clipping your goodie bag off on the gold line near the sign and go for a dive, pick up trash at the end of the dive

For the more ambitious, there are several big branches in Snake Sink (AKA: Yana Sink) that need to be cut up with a bow saw (or chain saw) and hauled out but this will also require some rope to haul the debris up the steep bank. WATCH OUT FOR THE POISION IVY!!

There has been a pavalion reserved for the CDF. Park ranger on duty will be "Stan Christian" in the morning/early afternoon and "Gene Allen" in the afternoon/evening, I will not be there. They will assist any way they can.

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

    Hey Mike
The flow has significantly diminished and the cave is starting to get that hazy appearance (viz 20'),so any silt disturbed from pulling up trash will be slow to move out.

I will bring a bow saw, chainsaw and ropes.

Not sure if I have any mesh bags for the u/w trash.

TJ...The ranger (Stan) has bags for trash. However, these are not for UW use. At this point, everyone bringing mesh bags would be incredibly beneficial.

Kelly, thanks for your update. There is plenty of work to be done between Blue & Yana as well as the basin area.

OK, I jumped the gun, Stan doesn't want any work done in Snake as far as removing tree limbs. Let's limit to litter pick-up in the cave, sinks & spring head.
    Sorry for my misinformation

Great thing that you guys are doing and will be truely appreciated by the park. The traverses from the head spring, snake, yana and green are something that until recently has not been able to be seen by the cave diving community,a real gem, plus add to that cleaning up trash that has accumulated will make it an even more enjoyable site. Conditions ought to be good with less current having to battle will make the work easier.
