Thread: Ginnie?

You?d have to be a pretty ignorant cave diver to not hold that Louisiana pastor as a hero. Considering their set of circumstances is exactly what the caving community is going to face some day and to some extent right now. Just because you are anti God doesn?t mean you should ignore the freedom aspect of their situation. You are scared of the corona virus so you say they should stay at home for the good of mankind. Even to the point of arresting the pastor to protect those people from themselves. Don?t be angry one day when you are told you cannot cave dive because it is so dangerous. You?ll probably have to be arrested trespassing a few times because you are too stupid to know the risk you?re taking. And look how many deaths could be prevented if we outlaw cave diving. Our argument has always been that we know the risks, but caving is so important to us that we are willing to assume that risk, and mitigate as much as we can through training and practice, but dive anyway. Those people do understand the coronavirus. How could you not turn on the tv and hear wall to wall coverage of it? But assuming that risk and going to church is more important to them. It?s all about your priorities and your freedom. There were that many people at the Walmart I just went to, so they do have a valid point.

Cave diving puts only yourself at risk. Socializing during a pandemic puts lots and lots of others at risk. Outlawing cave diving might prevent a few deaths per year. Outlawing socializing during a pandemic prevents millions of deaths.

Ridiculous comparison. It’s really a stretch. One has to do with personal risk. The other is putting others at risk.

I?d believe that if you told me no one has ever been hurt doing a recovery.

Still nonsensical. Recovery divers choose to put themselves in harm?s way. You?re arguments are not good ones.

Are you bent out of shape because you think he was disparaging people?s religious beliefs? Because he didn?t seem to be. A person?s religious beliefs shouldn?t trump public safety.

No. I?m actually bent out of shape at peoples willingness to just hand over their freedom for some perceived safety and security, no questions asked. And then ridicule others because they do not agree. The comparison is spot on. People who choose to go outside are not harming you. They are only risking their own health. They are not coming into your house and breathing on you. If you go out you are making a personal risk. Just like diving.

And what are you going to do to the arrested pastor, when and if, 20+ members of his congregation die because of the Corona virus they caught at one of his banned services?
That would make him a mass murderer and it would be perfectly reasonable to carry out the death sentence on him after conviction and appeals.

It's perfectly ok to kill yourself, it isn't ok to kill others.

C'mon, you're not giving up your freedom when you're staying away from groups for 3 weeks or a month. And it's not 'perceived safety', this is real life. Watch the news. I hope you don't believe in any of these absurd conspiricy theories.

It's not like diving. These churchgoers are actively helping to spread a global pandamic in their city and thousands if not hundred of thousands people will die much earlier then they would without the pandamic.
I not saying these people are idiots but they seem rather ignorant, possibly because they were feed bs information. You might not realise it yet, but the disease is comming to your town too. We already had 30,000 die of this in Europe WITHIN A MONTH and it's just beginning. Don't you realise that? You'd rather have more people die early in your town than skip a couple of church services? Really?
Aren't you supposed to be compassionate as a christian?

Moderator's note: I get it, we are stuck at home because of the virus and rivers being flooded. But, attacks on each other and delving into politics will result in this thread being timed out. As the NACD would say, please govern your self accordingly
