I?m sure I?m overlooking the obvious but what?s a practical use of this information on the Shearwater while diving/deco.
Obviously Shearwater thought it was important.
Thanks in advance.

I use delta+5 when diving CCR to get a feel for how quickly my dive is becoming long, or to track if I'm starting to clear deco in a shallower cave section. It's less useful on open circuit I think because you're limited by gas.
@+5 is pretty self-explanatory. delta+5 I've used a couple of times at different times to see if I was offgassing at that particular depth. More for my general knowledge/entertainment. I don't find delta5 overly useful otherwise.
Am I misunderstanding or isn't it answering the question "How many more minutes can I swim around at this level on the Spiegel Grove and watch the fishies, without acquiring more minutes of deco than I currently have" or "If I watch the fishies for 5 more minutes how much more deco will I incur"
@5 and delta5 simply show the results of staying put at your current depth for another 5mins.
Example: I’m on a dive and come across something cool. If I take some pics of it for 5mins, how much time will that add to my ascent? Maybe I don’t wanna do that because it’s getting close to dinner time.
I find it handy to have that info, especially on multilevel dives.
The delta +5 is more useful to show deco efficiency on the way up. Not as useful for bottom time. By doing the simple math for you, it helps you decide if you want to be right up against that deco ceiling or if you want to stay a little deeper. For example, your stop is 40 feet, yet you want to stay at 60 feet for "whatever reason", then the delta might show you will only burn off 3 minutes of deco for each 5 minutes you spend at that depth. I've found it useful for long deco's when you might want to avoid a certain level to know how your change to deco is affecting the efficiency. It's a neat little tool to play with on long decos. For those that keep deco under an hour, it's probably not very useful.
