    Default Wakulla Caves Officially Protected

    https://www.conserveflorida.org/cfln...la-caves-saved

As an aspiring cave diver, I wonder if the caverns there are suitable for my exploration or if there are any nice safe(r) passages close to an exit there suitable for Cave 1 / Intro level (not too deep / technical) dives and will it be open soon??

Looks like this was property purchased for a conservation easement. Recreational access was negotiated at another easement in the past, but it required a lot of effort. Many of the sites in the Woodville Karst Plain are deep, and are considered advanced level cave dives.

not sure how much more protected they are than the previous owner to be honest. I really hope access continues.

We don’t have to worry about that tract being turned into a neighborhood, golf course, Walmart, or gas station now.

The top of the cavern is over 100' deep. The floor there is around 200'.

Not to mention the locals are concerned divers will vandalize the Mastadon bones in the cavern, and they will never allow recreational diving.

I think Forest is referring to Wakulla "spring" at the main state park. They kind of made it confusing by calling this "Wakulla Caves", when those who have done exploration here called it the Ferrell property since that's who owned it. The Cavern at Meeting house is large and starts at 20' and is at 120' at the bottom where the cave starts. The front part of the cave is in the 150-200' range. Ferrell sink has a nice cave in the 50-60' range. It's not a long cave, but a nice dive.

THAT'S the kind of information I am looking for. Is it open yet? The article makes it sound like it is already open as a "world class cave diving destination". What are the average flow and visibility like? Can't wait to know the details of every single site on that property. According to the article: "at least 13 karst sinks found on the property"!!!!!

Finally got some time to look at the article. Less than happy to see the video linked is from good 'ol douchey Dan. Will there be a follow up article "wakulla caves closed due to complaining jackass" ?
